Good hotel, rooms are clean and quiet. Seems a bit tired when you arrive but grows on you. One of the best locations in Stockholm, on the water, can walk to everything. Service was fine, friendly and helpful, no glitches, and good restaurant recommendations (you need to book always, good restaurants often have no free tables, and the reception staff will do this for you).
No doorman which seems a bit strange but front desk staff help with bags etc.
Breakfast was simple but nice.

Room Tip: don't know - at the front would have the view but also traffic noise maybe?

Friendly staff, great service... We've had an amazing and luxurious time at the Diplomat. The spa facilities are excellent - it's booked exclusively for you so you don't need to share jacuzzi and sauna with other people at the same time - you have it all for yourselves.
Breakfast buffet is complete including fresh waffles and virgin blood maries. We had the deluxe double room, the bed was big and very confortable and the room is pretine clean - the only thing I'd change is upgrading the bathroom. Close to everything, beautiful view from the room. we only had excellent things to say about this hotel. Will come back next time we're in Stockholm!

A delightful hotel in every respect. The Diplomat has subtle, old-world charm without pretentiousness or ostentation. Very friendly and courteous staff, helpful and accommodating front desk, cozy, comfortable and clean room, great location, excellent food and service in the restaurant. I arrived on an early flight to Stockholm and the front-desk clerk went out of his way to help me get settled. A waitress in the restaurant remembered my order from the day before. A staff member showed me to the spa, which I was having difficulty finding. The spa itself was an exceptional feature of the hotel and is not to be missed. The first floor had a very comfortable layout, with one public area complete with cozy fireplace and a second public area that doubles as a small library. There may be more elegant hotels in Stockholm, no doubt there are hotels with more modern entrances and elevators. But this is a hotel that I would look forward to returning to.

Room Tip: The first floor had many comfortable features and public areas not typically found in hotels.

We only stayed one night on our way to stay at the ice hotel, but really enjoyed the hospitality we received. The hotel was very clean and so was the bedroom we stayed in, however the bathroom although clean could have been more up to date. The use of the privet sauna and jacuzzi was also a nice touch, the meals in the restaurant were first rate and there was a wide selection for breakfast also. Overall I would recommend staying based on our stay.

Diplomat has without doubts the prime location in Stockholm. 5 mins walk to the very centre of the city. Easy access to marvellous park areas where one can walk for hours through woods, over meadows and along the sea, close and yet far away from the noise of the city.
But the best is the hotel in itself. You can't come closer to a family hotel. It is not enormous, It has a distinct charm, the quality of the rooms is second to none, although some single rooms may appear somewhat small, the personnel is efficient and very polite. The restaurant and the bar well above standard and extremely popular amongst the locals.
Since my first visit Diplomat has always been my favourite.

Room Tip: If you want views ask for a room with sea view. If you prefer silence go for a room facing the back...

Lets get to it; why is this not a five star hotel? After having spent several nights in the comfortable beds, got myself ready in the large bathrooms (including his and hers (Well, his and his in our case..) -areas) and enjoyed quite a few great meals in the T/BAR restaurant over some time I do have the answer. Hotel Diplomat is located with beautiful views over the sea on one of Stockholm´s most exclusive streets Strandvegen in one of the cites most beautiful buildings right next to shops like Svenskt Tenn, restaurants like Strandvegen 1 (One of HRH Princess Madeleine´s favorites). A two-minutes walk will get you to Birger Jarlsgatan (street) witch features shops like Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Prada and Natalie Shuterman witch is Stockholm´s number one multi brand store.
T/BAR, the ground floor restaurant where breakfast is served, is beautifully bright and scandinavian and a popular spot for lunch, brunch, dinner and, foremost; Afternoon tea. During the summertime T/BAR also opens outside. The food is divine, the sinks are great and the price´s not to bad. Defiantly worth popping by if you are in town. On the first floor the Gallery lounge features several separate exhibitions each year and shows off the owning family´s own collection witch is also worth a look if coming by.

So, once again; why is this not a 5*? Well, it´s about attention to detail. The rooms are spacious and probably above average in design, but Stockholm has a lot of great hotels and compared to Grand, Ett Hem, Nobis and Lydmar, the rooms at Diplomat does not keep the standard when considering the decoration of the rooms, cleanness and breakfast. While T/BAR as mentioned is one of the cities best spots for rustic but luchious lunch, the breakfast is good, but why is the juice from concentrate and why isn´t the veggies organic? Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. The same about the rooms; comfortable beds, quiet and nice, but why is there not an extra pillow in the closet and why is there three not-really-matching fabrics on the chairs and headboard?
Compared to the mentioned competition Hotel Diplomat seams dated more the traditional once you step into your room witch is bad when the shared areas (T/BAR, the cosy coctailbar on the first floor and the Gallery lounge) is stunning. At the same time; if you´ve got a room overlooking the sea, and you don´t mind carrying your own luggage you will not regret choosing Hotel Diplomat. (Also worth mentioning, HD has a great loyalty program for those of us that visit regularly, with free upgrades, minibar-products and monogrammed bathrobes(!!)). Some repainting, a few meters cashmere, a light in the fireplace in the hallway, and I will stay forever (And give it the five stars it really deserves!)!

Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea, preferably one of the newly decorated (witch I have not visited...
