Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, Stockholm
Ranked #54 of 154 Hotels in Stockholm
Reviewed January 28, 2013

This hotel is ideally situated beside the central station, literally just a few steps away. It is only a short walk to the main attractions that Stockholm has to offer, and is surrounded by several restaurants and eateries featuring different cuisines. Five minutes walking will take you to Sergels Torg, and 15 minutes later you will reach Gamla Stan, the old town.

The room is furnished in an attractive, modern style, and the bathroom is compact yet utilizes space very well. The only negative thing about the room is the small closet space -- it is not enough especially in winter because guests will be hanging up bulky coats and other winter wear.

The breakfast buffet is served in a large conference hall that looks bare and utilitarian. It seemed more like a mess hall rather than a restaurant. The selection of breakfast food items was also more limited compared to other Radisson Blu hotels in other Scandinavian cities.

The hotel provides free internet which is really great. I think Radisson Blu hotels provide free internet as a rule, which is one of the reasons why we selected this hotel.

This hotel is nice to stay in and is an ideal base from which to explore the city. We will definitely stay here when we come back to Stockholm.

Radisson Viking is in walking distance from the central train station (covered walk). The airport train arrives at the closest lane. Walking to the shopping street and some restaurants (few very good).

The rooms are very small and some of the room go to the inside court. We stayed in a superior room and can only imagine the size of the standard rooms. The air-con (in winter) was pretty warm and tough to regulate, so you might sweat in winter in Stockholm (!). The bathrooms are small but functional.

A good place to start discovering Stockholm.

It has a couple of bars, pricey and pretty cold. Great Sauna downstairs, unfortunately many puritan and shy English guests there, who go to the Sauna dressed, hence smelly.

Room Tip: Don't come with many suitcases. Inside looking rooms feel gloomy.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in while travelling on business. Service excellent from front desk through to bar. Beautiful rooms on Business Floor...great showers. Very pretty hotel and good value. Definitely one of the better in the Radisson portfolio

First time in Stockholm on business, usual Radisson stuff, very helpful advice about the taxi ripoffs. Room comfortable and quiet. Bar and restaurant too busy for my liking, but lots of good places around. Pool miniscule - disappointing, why dont they be upfront about it being too small to swim in? 9th floor bar very nice but busy and pretentious. Breakfast usual Radisson stuff with no frills at all apart from the Japanese corner, which didn't interest me in the slightest.

Room Tip: Get a Business room

Very good location, easy to get to from the airport. Friendly staff, but the rooms are so outdated, think early 90s. Breakfast ok for what you pay, feels like eating in a school cafeteria, no soul at all. I had to stay here for business, but would not stay here on a holiday. The Radisson Blu Waterfront is so much nicer. Stay there instead.

Location, location, location.... this hotel has it: right next to the central station where you have direct trains to everywhere around the city and beyond (also a direct train to the Arlanda airport). The location was the only thing that could appeal me in this hotel. The hotel reception is very large and there are some nice seating spots, there is also a bar in the lobby where they only serve at the table if it isn't to crowdy which is hardly ever.
If you ask for a room make sure you ask for one on the right side of the reception, these supposed to be renovated already. I got one on the left side of the building and they are really outdated. My room was small, with a lot of wooden wall panels. It did have a (small) writing desk and coffee making facilities. The television was a very small prehistorical version with 4 English channel (in total there were not much more than 10-15 channels). The room looked out at the central station which was nice. I could not open the window and since the airco made a lot of noise there wasn't much air ventilation in the room. The bathroom was outdated with old tiles.
The breakfast area is in the center of the hotel and if you're lucky you can get a room with a view of the breakfast area ;) For the price you need to pay for having breakfast here it was not great. You do have a large variety of cold and hot dishes (even Japanese) but do not take the scrambled eggs, they taste horrible. The fresh orange juice wasn't that great either. In this "room" there is a cold atmosphere, it doesn't feel cozy.
The restaurant Fisk supposed to be an award winning restaurant, well I personally was not impressed. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either and the white wine wasn't cold enough.
At the 9th floor there is bar with view over the city where you cannot get in when you still have your jacket on and because they will keep it for you you also need to pay for it. A rip-off. Make sure to mention that you stay in the hotel because than you don't need to pay.
Stayed in Radisson hotels before I wasn't impressed by this one. The prices they charge are just to high for what you get, especially for the not-renovated rooms. Although the location cannot be beaten, if I go back I would not stay here anymore.

To be honest it was a first disapointment for a long time. Fortunately we spent there only one night. I even checked photos booking.com as I couldn' believe that i have book SUCH a room for such a price. Photos on the booking.com and reality were two different things. My friend even refused to take a shower there as the bathroomlooked like it needed renovation for a long time.
But location is great! Next to the main train station and airport express and 10 min walk to the old town. breakfast is quite nice
