Description: Djurgården's green open spaces are walking distance from the stresses of downtown Stockholm. And that's where you'll find a warm, relaxing atmosphere in the form of Djurgårdsbrunn restaurant. The restaurant specialises in Swedish and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and serves everything from duck liver terrine to hamburgers. In short, there's something for everyone here. For example, choose between: seafood dishes such as shellfish rice, tuna, lobster, blue mussels, gambas, pike-perch; free range chicken with French herbs and asparagus potatoes; beef tartar with beetroot, capers, coarse mustard and pommes frites; and summer mushroom soup with shallots and crostini.

Despite the fact that the restaurant was far from full, our party of six adults and two children was "welcomed" to our outdoor table with the admonition that "since there are so many of you, you'd better all order the same thing". No, not lost in translation, we were speaking Swedish and understood both what was said and how it was said. In the end the majority of us did choose the same main course - quenelles of pike-perch (adequate, with a sauce that was better than the actual quenelles). We had to wait too long for the main course to be served. Those who were brave enough to order desert or coffee were faced with another interminable delay. At least the surroundings were pleasant and we had plenty of time for conversation. But the words of welcome grated throughout the meal and it was not worth making the journey to this rather isolated part of Djurgården for this experience. There are much better open air restaurants around.

Couples families and groups come at lunch for the buffet or a la carte, great location in good weather, sit ouside and buffet for several hours. no rush, relaxed, reasonable price (for stockholm) and we will go again.
