Reviewed June 30, 2013

One of the very best hotels very well hidden. Located in a small island in center Stockholm a few minutes away from the center of the city. Peacefull gardens by the seaside. The restaurant and its service are vere good. Breakfast very simple but one of the best.

Room Tip: Sea side view

Hotel Skeppsholmen is easily the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Location is brilliant, at Skeppsholmen, in the middle of Stockholm. Being on an island, it is surrounded by water, quiet, and with a view of the cherry treas outside its windows in full blossom. The hotel is the old barracks converted into a top class hotel with every amenity you could think of, and totally accessible by wheelchair. You can walk into the center, or take a short boat trip. It is the perfect honneymoon hotel. It is not cheap, but you still get great value for money!

Pleasant, very modern hotel in historic building. Ideally located, within walking distance of Stockholm city centre, in a delightful harbourside park-like environment. Staff friendly and efficient. Good but expensive restaurant. Minimalist Scandinavian design isn't really my thing, but if it is yours, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: For the best views, make sure you get a room on harbour side.

The guy in reception was ridiculously rude to us when we checked in. We were celebrating, so decided to let it slide, but it left a slightly sour note.

Room (a suite) was large and clean, as was the bathroom - but insulation was poor, so the seagulls woke us up all night. Interior is attractive, minimalist.

Location is great, this is Stockholm at its loveliest. A nice walk or bus ride to town, perfect for a short walk around the island in the evening before bed.

Breakfast was alright, nothing memorable. Buying cocktails etc. is expensive, even for Sweden.

This place has the cool, minimalist qualities of Sweden. Excellent comfortable bed. Breakfast was very extensive, one of the best seen across Europe. Good location. Everything in Stockholm is a walk and everybody does walk (very few cars on the road). People friendly enough (as friendly as they do get in this town). Everything in Stockholm is expensive, but this remained reasonable value.

The hotel is on the southern shores of Skeppsholmen, a picturesque island in central Stockholm which is also home to the Modern Art museum and Architecture museum. Depending on where you're heading it is a 15-25 minute walk into town but staying at this hotel is really worth it for the peace and comfort the hotel offers.

The hotel is a treat for lovers of Scandinavian interior design with a blend of stylish and eye catching design present everywhere. However,as so often happens, this is not without its challenges. The rooms are large, tastefully designed with wooden floors and very comfortable beds. Ask for a south facing room if possible so you get a water view.

The bathroom is where the oddness starts to creep in. In our room (139) there was a pebble sink. The water runs onto a stone before running off it into the drain. This design never works as you can't fill the sink simply wash in a stream of water and spitting your toothpaste at as stone just feels odd.The shower also took some getting used to. This was a rain water style shower head placed centrally above a vast comfortable bath. As there was no shower curtain the floor that soaked every time I showered.

The quirk in the bedroom was that the bedside unit on one side of the bed was replaced with a mini bar while the main closet was in the room's large lobby. A slight triumph of style over utility unless your need for a beer in bed at 2am is greater than your need for a place to store things in easy reach.

The WiFi is fast and free (well done Hotel Skeppsholmen why can every hotel do this)

Breakfast is included and wonderful. Fruit juices, bacon, scrambelled eggs, ham, cheeses, pastries and Swedish goodies in abundance. The best breakfast gradvalax ever. The tea (fill your own tea bag) is also note worthy.

The staff are helpful if slightly reserved as is the way in Sweden but book taxis and they also sell bus/metro tickets which is handy. Don't expect your bags carried to your room.

If you're lucky with the weather always eat outside as a the gardens are beautiful and filled with Peyonies.I should write a seperate review of the restaurant but won't, so here goes.

The restaurant contain great modern art on the walls and a small, well constructed, modern Scandinavian menu. We shared a herring salad which was light and delicious, followed by belly pork and the house meatballs. All expertly cooked in a modern style with traditional elements. The garnish of pickled cucumber with the meatballs is divine (no don't wrinkle your nose it is delicate and delicious)

The deserts are fantastic each with a little mystery ingredient that lift them above the ordinary. The lemon verbena strands on top of the chocolate mouse brilliant.

You'll need to book even if you're staying as the restaurant fills up quickly.

In summary, forget the formula business hotels in the center of town and embrace your inner Scandinavian designer-self. Stay here, you're bound to love it.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review and what a lovely one to receive.
Yes we are not the typical business hotel with our historical buildings from 1699 and our Scandinavian interior from the Swedish interior firm Claesson Koivisto Rune. It's been a challenge to convert these historical and listed buildings to a hotel and I agree we are not the most practical hotel but we hope our amazing history, our chic Scandinavian interior to our stunning location on this
green island in the city centre makes up for it.

Very glad to read your wonderful review about our breakfast and our restaurant Långa Raden.

I am sorry we failed to ask if we could help you with your luggage.

Best and I hope we have the pleasure to welcome you back soon again to our Eco Labeled Hotel.

Hotel skeppsholmen is a sanctuary with peaceful views, wonderful breakfast an excellent dinners. It is worth paying for a larger room as the outdoor spaces so relaxing, you want to recreate it in the room so you can appreciate the bird watching and morning chorus.

Room Tip: A superior room is required, the standard rooms are really for solo travellers
