Description: This convivial restaurant on Stora Nygatan in Stockholm's Old Town (Gamla Stan), offers a 2-course set menu at lunchtime and a 4-course menu in the evenings. The bar menu is updated daily with our "assiettes". The bar serves Nils Oscar Brewery beer''s on draught and a number of characterful bottled beers from microbreweries, as well as a large selection of wine by the glass.

“I guess this is shabby chic of fine dining”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Fine dining has experienced rought times the last years and 19 glas is for me a really nice path to choose (when everyone else choose the gastro bistro way).

19 glas has a new 5 course menu each night and it is performed with excellent precision. The taste is pure and in harmony. From my point of view the portions could be slightly larger.
The wine list is long as swedish autumn rain and has a very special (or at least unusual pricing). The glass price is never 1/4 or 1/5 of the bottle price. On the other hand most wines are available on glass. And we were offered a way much better wine for the same price that we already ordered.

The setting is rough but neat and with a tasteful elegance. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable but not typical gentil fine dining staff (which can be really uncomfortable).

So yes! I will return.

“Great Food, Fab Staff”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

On Sunday afternoon we were wandering around Gamlastan looking for somewhere for a late lunch, and thought we'd stop and have a look at the menu hanging out the front of 19glas, a small wine bar down a cobbled street.

The very personable waiter said they didn't really do lunch on Sundays, but they were trying a wide range of Scandi-influenced tapas and had more than 300+ wines by the glass. Well, that sold us! We grabbed a small table on the footpath and sat down on stools that were made from giant corks.

The very friendly and helpful waiter bought us the menu and this is what we ordered:-

Spinach and garlic
Pickled beetroot
Chantarelle toast
Oven roasted potatoes with garlic
Gruyere cheese
Beans with lardo
Rillette of duck and beer
Puree of yellow peas with pork shank

We also got a few plates of bread and the food was so good that we were wiping the plates clean with it - YUM! The tapas was fabulous and our faves were the rillette, beans with lardo, and the peas with pork (all of which we re-ordered).

The staff were great and the chef came out for a chat after we'd eaten. We could have easily whiled away the afternoon watching the world go by with a few glasses of vino, but as it was Sunday, the shops were closing at 4pm (hello, important!) - so we had to scoot.

Here's a link to the wine list - http://19glas.com/sidor/upload_dokuments/Vinlista_Juni_28.pdf.

We'll definitely be back if we're visiting Stockholm again.

“Unexpectedly good”
Reviewed June 10, 2011

Trip Advisor labels this as asian fusion, but that is wrong. It is more California - East Bay. It is simply fresh, local food prepared with a deft and light touch and liberal use of shallot and butter.

Try the small plates. The herb salad was 3 little bites of startling herbs (literally) in a light lemon dressing.

Not for most people....but one of the finest meals we've had anywhere.

“Good concept with room to improve”
Reviewed April 3, 2011

The service was good and the knowledge of wine and food was impeccable, however, the servants were missing a bit of commitment throughout the whole session. It started out perfect, but after a while the waiter/waitress seemed to have forgotten all about us. As the first dish was served we still had no napkins and it was hastly serverd by another waiter/waitress, who despite the obvious stress turned out to be very calm and acting team player.

The sommelier unfortunately had a habit of only looking the men in the eyes whilst suggesting wines, which feels kind of old school.

It was very hot and smokey within the premises, however the seating was satisfactory. The food was well thought out and the presentation was quite nice as well, but the lack of spices and a little extra something definitely pulls down our ratings.
