“Very good overall”
Reviewed March 14, 2011

The best thing about this hostel is its location. It's close enough to the main drag in Sodermalm, Gotgatan, yet the surrounding streets are not too crowded or busy.

The set out of the hostel was a bit annoying however. My dorm, and a few others, opened directly out into the kitchen, and it was a bit noisy at times, but never really affected my sleep though.

The bathrooms and showers are clean (and separated) and facilities like an ironing board, book exchange, some free food and internet access were good.

Staff were friendly but not willing to help out too much.

Also, security was lacklustre- the night door didn't always close properly so pretty much anyone could walk into the hostel; but the neighborhood, and Stockholm in general, are very safe.

Overall, a great stay and I wouldn't hesitate coming back next time I'm in Sweden.

I spent a lot time traveling across Europe this fall, and Skanstulls stood out as an excellent place to stay. They are super-organized when it comes to checking in. Lockers, beds, and sheets are assigned right away at the front desk, and protocol regarding meal times, kitchen etiquette etc. is clearly outlined for all to read. Rooms are clean and bright. Pasta, tea, and coffee are always free, which encourages people to stay around and form a nice, communal atmosphere at breakfast and lunch. The big, shared bathroom is kept clean, and there are enough shower stalls for there not to be a hold up at "rush hour" in the morning. Internet is free, and there are about 5 or 6 computers to use. Common tables in the kitchen/lounge area are good for meeting other travelers. Perks: There is a supermarket across the street, so you can pick up food if you're looking to save a little money while on the road, and store anything that needs refrigeration in the kitchen. The hostel also abuts a very cool part of town with vintage boutiques and independent cafes. The closest T-bana station is no more than a 4 minute walk away, and it takes about 10 minutes to get there from the T-centralen station. My only (very minor) complaint: desk staff ran hot and cold when it came to attitude. It's not deal-breaker-worthy, as one never has too much to do with front desk staff at a hostel. They were always helpful, but sometimes almost begrudgingly.

This hostel is conveniently located in the hip suburb of Sodermalm and makes exploring the city very easy. The Stockholm citybikes service recommended by the hostel staff was a cheap way to get around and enjoy the warm weather and this lovely city. The hostel is small and located in the basement of a building, but their use of space is clever and you dont feel claustrophobic. Clean hostel, well equipped kitchen, comfortable dorms and very good value for money. Only downside is that the computers were slow and most of the toilets were unisex- which meant they werent that pleasant by the end of the day.The other travellers we met in the kitchen were lovely and this place has a nice vibe. Would stay again.

Was a pretty good stay. Rooms are nice, beds comfortable. Communal kitchen is great as you can make your own food and the free pasta is fantastic. Free computers is also a bonus. Only drawback was the ability to socialise as its only a small seating area. But its nothing to worry about, location is great and would recommend!!

it was a very nice hostel. staff was friendly and it had a "social" kitchen. hostel itself provided free pasta for everyone. price was o.k. once you arrive to the central bus station, you have to take metro to get there. although it is only 3 or 4 stations, metro costs 3 euro per person.
next time i will try to find a hostel as nice as this one in the downtown, if i cant find one, i will stay at skanstulls for sure.

I was a couple of days in this Stockholm hostel and it was great.
The double room was excellent, and there's plenty of bathrooms and a high-level gym-like shower room. The location is near the metro station, so you can be in Gamla Stan in 10 minutes.

There's also free wifi and free cofee and pasta. Very recommended!

I stayed the the 12 person dorm. The beds were very very comfortable (non-squeaky). Small lockers for personals. Common kitchen and dinnig area well equiped plus free pasta, tea and coffee was a positive. The showers were clean but not great, had to hold the shower head and curtains were very flimzy. Staff weren't rude but weren't outgoing either. Free internet and plenty of computers. A half hour walk from Gamla Stan allowed me to get to know the real (ie:suburban) Stockholm. It was very close to Skanstull train station, which was great for travel to and from the Stockholm Sentral. Quite pricey, but everything is in Stockholm.
