“Great location”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

I recently stayed 3 nights with a friend in the 6-bed mixed dorm. The location is great. It's practically within walking distance of almost everything touristy. The staff was very kind. We arrived 6 hours before check in after a long flight. They were fully booked, but still allowed us to come in, wash up, and have some breakfast. The room was relatively small, but we were mainly looking for a clean and safe place to crash after a day of walking. The hostel does have rules regarding noise levels past certain hours and all the guests were mindful. However the place is located very close to several bars, and open windows are a must during the summertime (no AC) so if loud music bothers you, it may not be ideal.
It's certainly not a five-star hotel, but if you want to see Stockholm on a student budget, this place is great.

The location of 2KRONOR is perfect. You couldn’t ask for a better location. It’s located in the old quarter and on the outside of it so you can over look the bay. Very nice. It’s attached to a hotel and the signs out side make it fairly easy to find.

It’s a smaller hostel maybe holding 10 rooms. They have a nice kitchen and a small eating area so its really easy to meet your fellow travlers. I think that is what I liked most about this hostel.

The Bad: You have to pay extra for linen or you have to bring your own, which is not a big deal but they should just go ahead and include that in the price. The reception is only open five hours in the day so if you need some help you have just a few hours. With that said, I didn’t need to talk to the reception but other times at hostels you may need to ask for advice. The rules. Oh the rules. The rules are posted everywhere. Don’t do this, don’t brush your teeth after 10pm, no alcohol, no smoking, etc. I respect all these rules as its designed to make everybody’s stay pleasant, but they inundate you with these rules posted everywhere. It makes you feel like you have to tip toe around the hostel. Also there are all the keycodes and doors. There is a keycode to enter the building, a door to access the hallway to access another door with another keycode to access your dorm area, and then the final door with keycode to get into your room. Finally, there are only 2 toilets but there are a few sinks downstairs located next to the very weirdly thrown together showers.

The hostel makes me think that the hotel used all of there excess space (ie basement and closets) and turned those areas into a money making business. A hostel. People staying at hostels don’t care right?

Even with all the negatives, I did enjoy my stay there and I would even recommend this to budget travelers. Just know that there are a few annoyances, but you can get past that.

Room Tip: Yes, make sure you get a room up on the ground floor and not in the basement. But the window was ni...

For the price you do get the very minimum, but to be honest, it is what you expect. The room was small and dark with seperate beds, a bit like a prison layout without the toilet, the communal showers we just usable by someone who is 6 foot plus, the kitchen area and shared sitting area were fine.

The staff were very friendly, as we other guests which made it overal a very good place to stay.

I have just returned back from a 3 night stay in 2Kronor. Overall the hostel was fine for what I wanted (a place to crash after scurrying around museums and galleries for the whole day) but there were definitely areas that could be improved upon, and the majority of the guests I encountered were less impressed than I was.

Pros: excellent location right on the waterfront in Gamlastan, and it is cheap (though if money is of a real concern Sweden might not be the place for you...). The dorms were well heated and clean and had lockers in them and the beds were comfortable, and overall even in a 6 bed dorm I slept okay. The showers in the basement were powerful, warm and clean.

Cons: the dorms were absolutely tiny; barely room for the beds that were crammed in, never mind any luggage. My bag was under the bed the whole time, and my clothes were along the wall in the bed with me. It made for sleeping conditions that were less than ideal, and was certinaly not helped by the fact that many room-mates were not using any sheets or even sleeping bags, but just lying as the beds were - the smell in the morning reflected as much. There was also a distinct lack of toilets in the hostel, with only two I could find.

Overall then, it was fine and though when returning I might spend a bit more to get a slightly bigger room and better facilities, it was good enough that I would definitely consider returning.

Hi, William here to review another hostel he's visited in Stockholm :). 2Kronor is a small hostel in Gamla Stan, Stockholm. And when I say small, I mean small. I stayed in a twin private room located in the basement with my girlfriend and we had troubles to fit in our baggage in the room. After opening the door we discovered there wasn't much place for anything else than beds, one night stand and one metal shelf. And also a hanger made out of metal wire. That's why I wouldn't recommend staying in private rooms in the basement. On the other hand the room itself was clean, the beds were comfortable and we slept well. Another thing is that rooms in the basement have windows which are difficult to open (just because ordinary people can't reach them, they are located at approx. 3 meter height.

The showers and WCs were clean. I mean the staff was trying to keep them clean, unfortunately, some of the visitors kept messing them up.

The kitchen keeps with the hostel's look. It's small, too :) Small, but it has microwave, oven, fridge and it's really useful. The only problem is that it fits at most three people at the same time :)

The staff was really helpful, always willing to help, e.g. they printed my boarding passes for me :)

And it was one of the cheapest hotels we had found (by cheapest I mean the best-valued twin private room).

To sum it up, 2kronor is a small hostel suitable for travellers who don't want to spend a lot of money and want a simple place to crash between days spend outside in one of the most beautiful cities of Europe.

Room Tip: Write to the reception and ask for a room that is NOT in the basement. Rooms located on the first fl...

We (one couple) stayed in a private room with two single beds on the second floor.
**Pros: good location (walking distance to sentrum and not far from gamlestad), clean, beds were comfortable, free tea and coffee, wifi
**Cons: small room, no sink, absolutely no air-conditioning( there is a fan in the room but it's super noisy, we had a room facing the road Which was quite noisy(it was the weekend tho) rooms are NOT soundproof (we were unfortunate enough to have people drinking and next door two nights in a row even tho we complained and mentioned it to reception). Be sure to book PARKING. We were disappointed the website said they had parking Inc. But it did not mention us having to book it. They have ONE parking spot.. So really shouldn't advertise parking!!

***seriously lacking shower a d toilets!!! Our entire floor had ONE and there was always a queue, since there is no sinks inthe room one must also brush teeth there!

Though functional, this hostel is noisy, crowded and a bit tatty. Dorm rooms are unpleasantly squashed with minimal storage space and no where even to hang a towel. Single rooms are small and not at all sound proof. The one I slept in was next to the toilet. Though nice, staff are fairly clueless- when asked, one didn’t even know that the midsummer festival is a major bank holiday in Sweden! The communal kitchen is minimally equipped though there is ample seating space and complementary ground coffee and tea. Internet is free.
