A native of Stockholm I have been here many times and always try to take foreign guests here. Yes also for the food but primarily for the ambiance. The bar is part of the Operakeller complex, with the top class restaurant, the Operakällaren the trendy Café Opera - at least it used to be trendy.
It is a pity many people miss is the Opera Bar - you don´t have to eat it´s ok to have a beer or only a glass of wine.
Red leather armchairs, marble tables and a fabulous stucco ceiling create a great feeling.
Food is genuine swedish and reasonably priced. Try herring and order beer which the serve in tall glasses with Operakallaren engraved in the glass.
If you are on a business trip and have dinner by yourself I suggest you eat by the counter at Backfickan - the sister restaurant which share the same kitchen. Just walk in -you cannot reserve a table. It´s the next door.
At The Opera bar be sure to reserve a table and ask for one of the tables by the windows. If you are more than three persons ask for the sofa in the corner. Otherwise you might be unlucky and in end up in one of the fairly uncomfortable wooden chairs.
