While we were in Stockholm for a couple of days just last week, we visited Vasa Museum on Djurgården Island. Having done some research beforehand, I knew where we wanted to eat - at this little garden restaurant - Bla Porten. It is located right at the "Grona Land" tram #7 stop (the #7 tram is the only tram in Stockholm) which is the next stop after the Vasa stop. It's less than a 10 minute walk from Vasa.
From the outside, it looks like nothing, and there are no signs announcing its existence. Right now there is also some construction going on outside the restasurant, so if you don't know it's there, you won't find it.
If you do find it, and if you do go inside, you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Inside the walls which enclose it almost completely is a beautiful garden with a pool and fountain, and many tables surrounding it. The restaurant is self-serve, with a limited number of dishes but with an almost unlimited collection of beautiful desserts. We had a sandwich, and a salad with poached salmon and a couple of beers. The food was fresh and tasty, the salmon was perfect, and the price was only 262 Kroners (about $40). That may not sound cheap, but if you have been to Stockholm, you probably know that that is a good price for a decent lunch.
This was a simple and quick meal that we really enjoyed and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Djurgården Island.
