Description: From market trader to purveyor to His Majesty the King. It all began in the early 1920s. Fisherman's daughter Lisa Elmqvist traded her wares at a street market by the waterfront, and customers quickly flocked to her stall. Her fish, shellfish and cookery skills were of such a high standard that she swiftly moved up to Ostermalms Saluhall - the perfect place to allow her ability to shine through. Today, 90 years later, the fourth generation of the Elmqvist family continues her work assiduously from the same stall, gaining more and more experience and ambitions. The restaurant has recommendations in Guide Michelin for the last 10 years in a row. During the renovation of the old market hall from 1888 you will find us at the temporary market hall at Ostermalstorg. We will move back summer 2018.

This restaurant lies in the middle of the indoor food market, excellent food in a fantastic building. A real favourite of mine..

Fabulous fish restaurant in the middle of a marketplace. I had gravlax and it was terrific. Two of our group had moulles which they said were better than anything they'd ever had. It's a fish market, fish was great.

Oh this is good food!! The Saluhall is a lovely pristine food market where you can wander and look at fresh food and packaged gourmet items. This restaurant is right in the market and it is busy. They seated the 2 of us at a table for 6 so we joined others which was fine. I had a shrimp salad - mixed greens, loads of fresh shrimp, chopped egg and avocado, yellow and red peppers, green beans - it was filling. It's a large menu with plenty of fresh options and an extensive wine list. Perhaps a bit pricey but it was incredible food and well worth it. Not too noisy considering the busy environment.

Sure, much of Scandinavia is expensive for food and this place is no exception. Even accepting this, it is still difficult to put out AUD25 for prawn toast or a salad. But good food requires fresh ingredients and money. The fact that this is located in a small food market and sells fresh wholesale seafood will already tell you that the quality is great and the prices will not be low. It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

The toast skagen is a lovely shrimp mix on some perfectly adequate bread. I also tried the avocado alexandra (smoked salmon + shrimps diced on top of an avocado) which was delicious and possibly the creamiest textured smoked salmon I've had. The bread basket they give you also helps fill you up and mop up leftovers for both of these dishes.

The food is good and you won't be disappointed. Whether it represents good value is a different and more difficult question. Maybe for Scandinavia, but most of us aren't from Scandinavia.

This is a very good place to have lunch. The market itself is a must sightseeing. After looking around you can eat your lunch here. I would suggest to eat the food here, but buy the dessert from another shop in the market as I did.
All of the products seemed very fresh. Even the bread was very good. We really enjoyed our lunch here.
I had butter fried pike-perch which was delicious.
