“Great hotel at fair price, but don't go by car”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

Booking:
Went smooth and easy. Called and spoke to a Danish receptionist who gave me the room at a good price for two night.
Room price:
Fair.
Location:
Central and yet not too busy.
Parking facilities:
Good, but be prepared that bringing a car to Malmø will cost you 245 SEK a day on weekdays and 195 SEK a day on weekends!
Check in:
The swedish male receptionist could have been more smiling, other than that everything went smoothly.
Room:
The room was simply great. I asked for something according to specific needs and got something even better.
Minibar:
Poor. And be ware, beer is extremely expensive in Malmø.
Breakfast:
Quite good. A buffet with both continental and English breakfast + a fair selection of ham, cheese, sausage - even scrimps and herrings!
Sleep quality: Very good. But if I had stayed in another floor or room at hotel it might not have been that good.
Cleanliness: Very satisfactory.
Staff in general: Friendly, but in the Scandinavian way which means that there are not overdoing anything.
I would not hesitate to go back to this hotel if I could be sure to get the same room next time.

I always enjoy my stay at this hotel, it is different to the usual hotel, the rooms are strange shapes and depending where your room is, you have to wind your way along corridors and up and down little stairways. The breakfast room has got nice character as it is in the old cellar / basement.
I have also found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and this hotel is very close to the central station and the 'small square' of Malmo where there are some really good eating venues.

This is a great hotel with an attentive and friendly staff.

Mayfair has an excellent central location - in fact, the stone at the corner of the hotel has been used to measure distances from Malmö to other cities in Scania.

The weather was very cold and rainy when we visited Malmö, so having a nice hotel room with a large soft bed, a big screen tv and a good bathroom was very appreciated. The room itself was clean and I really liked the classic decor of not just the room, but also the hotel in general. The small hallways are filled with interesting historical facts about the building (which is 700 years old) as well as the city.

A lot of the other reviews rave about the breakfast and while it was certainly good, I don't think it's that much different from most other 4-star hotels. The old cellar where the breakfast is held is very interesting, though.

I can warmly recommend Mayfair and we would definitely stay there again if we visit Malmö.

Nice and private centrally located hotel with excellent staff and breakfast. It felt a bit like comming home. Historic building dating back to the 1700´s. Own restaurant with reasonable prices located on the premises with old cellar.
Walking distance to many interesting restaurants.
Possible indoor parking.

All I can say is that this is a PERFECT choice for city breaks and romantic get-aways. Excellent location (can not be better), stylish and good-old-times interior, extremely comfortable beds, rich breakfast. Overall, good value for money for expensive Sweden.

Room Tip: Standard double is somewhat larger than small double. Can be better choice for those who want a bit...

The highlight of this hotel was definitely the breakfast, served in a cellar built in 1307. The room was tiny with an even tinier bathroom. The room had a small bed, more suitable for a single person than for two. The bathroom was small even for one person. There was no counter space, and the shower area consisted of a curtain across part of the bathroom. A row of bricks on the floor to keep water in the shower area impeded access to the sink and toilet. The room had a small refrigerator sitting on the floor with a coffeepot on it. There was also a fan, to bring some fresh air into the room. I would rate this room as three stars instead of four stars. The sound system in the lobby area was superb, and coffee was available there. The wi-fi was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask to view the room before you pay for it, especially if you need space for two people.

I did compare lots of hotels in Malmo to stay and finally I chose this because I read that the building is very old at hotel's website and wanted to stay there. We loved it! Me and my husband stayed there couple of weeks ago (August 2012).

-Its so close to the center.
-The time we were there it was a festival time so we had to ride 2-3 times to find the hotel since some of the roads were closed to the cars but then we found it! There are parking spaces available on some parallel streets that you can walk easily to the hotel.
-The staff are very very nice/friendly and they helped us with anything!
-The hotel itself is very pretty and they have all kinds of service.
-Pretty big room at the entrance to have coffee/tea/sitting...
-It was all clean!
-Room that we stayed in was nice as well! Beds are comfortable but prefer it to be bigger.
-Loved the breakfast, all kinds of food and bread was served! Breakfast area was so cool that I really loved it. The structure is very pretty.
-I wanted to do some treadmill and machines but they don't have a fitness center.

I recommend this hotel to everyone to spend a night or 2 to enjoy Malmo. As I have mentioned its just so close to the attractions. You would not regret!
