The main part of the activities is conducted at Kulturen in Lund, which is two blocks in central Lund filled with historic buildings and beautiful gardens for you to visit. Step into our houses and experience life in the city and the countryside, from the Middle Ages to the 1930s. You can also choose from among twenty exhibitions - from folk art to modern design, from medieval history to the present day, from local culture to world culture. There is always hustle and bustle at Kulturen in Lund. Here we celebrate high festivals and our own traditions such as Children's Day and Ghost Night and we offer an extensive visitor's program for all ages. When you get hungry, you can eat at the restaurant or grab a snack at our cozy cafe. Our other visitor destinations are e.g. Kulturen's Östarp, where you can experience a farm environment from the 1800s, Hökeriet, which is the oldest grocery store in Lund, The Museum of Life (Livets museum), which is about the human body functions, and the Museum of Medical History in Helsingborg, about how the perception of health and illness has changed over time. Kulturen conducts educational and scientific activities throughout the entire field of cultural history. A major part of our work consists of storage provisioning, documentation, and collection care. We also carry out assignments within archaeology and building preservation. Kulturen was founded in 1882 and has more than 3.500 members. If you like old houses and furnishings, you will love this place. Lots of old buildings gathered from all over the area and furnished to match their era. I liked the variety of time periods and social classes represented-- everything from a farmer's sod house to castle furnishings. Only thing I would pass on was the special presentation on toys-- it wouldn't have been worth waiting in line for.

Kulturen is one of those strange places where they collect buildings and show them together but out of their natural context. The concept is a little weird. Having said that Kulturen is really well done and very great care has been taken to make it as interesting as possible. Don't miss the excellent museum, worth a visit in itself!

Kulturen is a place I frequently visited with my three sons. It was a great place to while away any afternoon, rain or shine. And in Sweden, it more often than not was raining. The many buildings are interesting to wander. My kids loved the different toys from different eras. Our favorite spot was the cottage with dress-up clothes, a kitchen with implements that were common such as a butter churn. I have hundreds of pictures of my kids dressed up in wooden clogs and pretending to cook or clean. Great place. Kulturen is a place that you can continue to explore many times.

Kulturen provides a fascinating insight into Lund's past, both distant and recent. The exhibitions in the main building are a helpful starting point for those who want the facts and figures, and to see dozens of artefacts unearthed by archaeologists. The buildings outside have been rebuilt more or less from actual buildings of various types and present you with the actual experience of living in a farm worker's home or a wealthy merchant's house. some of them also contain exhibitions of various kinds. They try very hard to include a lot of things which might hold the attention of children (old toys etc) but I have to say one of two of the interiors festooned with old toys and very darkly lit seemed a bit creepy to me (we did not have children with us, but that was my impression).
