Location: getting to this restaurant/hotel is just a 2 minutes drive from the very busy main road N113 (Montpellier – Béziers). The restaurant has a private parking.
La Côte Bleue has a very pleasant and quiet terrace next to the water and a wonderful view over the “Etang de Thau”(an “inside sea”), with the Mont Saint-Clair and the city of Sète as horizon. This panorama is fascinating, as much during the day as after dark.
This restaurant has a century old history and started as an oyster farm, this activity is still important for this business.
The decoration of the spacious restaurant is traditional.
During the off-season (December) we decided for a lunch at this restaurant. There were only 3 tables with guests. We supposed that the chef was not working under stress and would pamper us with his best cooking. Our choice was the standard, 29 Euro, set menu.
We choose for mussels in the oven. Unfortunately, the preparation was uninspired. About the fish soup, I would definitely suggest the chef to look for a new recipe; also the roux and the little toasts that go with it gave an industrial impression. About the main course, the cod – how is it possible for a fish restaurant to get this wonderful product so chewy and dry? Deep freezed? Re-heated?
Very disappointing! As was the dessert.
Though the manager is certainly a very friendly man, he should rethink the quality of what he serves.
When you decide for this restaurant, I would recommend limiting your lunch choice to the excellent and very fresh “fruits” de mer”(= shellfish) plates.
