We stayed for 3 nights in the shacks with 2 other families.
GOOD: Great for the kids to scooter around.
BAD: The shacks are not cleaned very well and the showers have mould in them. We did not have mattress protectors on some of the beds. Utensils missing (potato peeler, spatular etc). We had a frying pan that was so burnt you could not cook on it. My friends had utensils missing and one of them could not use the dishwasher.
They need to upkeep and clean the properties better. We had a BBQ that had the sides falling of it and the bathroom sink was coming off the wall.
I would not give this property 4 stars.

Third time I've been (not by my suggestion)
THE GOOD: best thing about it is the gardens, kangaroos and pool. Beach nice but not for family swimming-big big rips. The units are a nice lay out, Always clean linen and comfortable beds.
THE BAD:
-The cultlery/crockery are usually washed by the previous holidayers and I always find them still half dirty with smear marks like they've been given a quick half hearted wash to avoid the $30 charge if you don't wash them.
- Couches/cushions/bbq often look bit grubby
-Dishwasher not working one time with stinking pond of water left in it from last people
-Not confident all surfaces have been wiped/disinfected properly. Looks Ok overall but not prisitne.

We stayed here for 4 nights from Christmas Day in a beach shack, 2nd time we have stayed here and really enjoyed it, we went with family and had 4 shacks all up eithere next to or in front of each other and furtherest away from the pool, which was heaps quieter, excellent grounds for young kids to play on, pool was good, think they could do with another one soon, as gets pretty busy in peak season. Shacks are pretty well equipped, but does need more washing detergent, there is a cafe and deli, but we bought our own food for dinners and cooked on BBQs, so you do have to bring a bit of stuff down. When we got there, there was no gas in BBQ, but rang their after hours number and they changed the bottle pretty quick. Beach isn't too far and lots of kangaroos around especially a night. Would definitely stay there again for a relaxing family getaway not too far from the city.

2 married couples stayed two nights in a two bedroom 'beach shack.'

Very nice reception staff and clean rooms.

Air conditioned upstairs and downstairs with no verandah and BBQ.

A little restaurant/cafe/bar served good food.

Beautiful beach with 4wd access.

Our family of five stayed in a 1 bathroom (2 toilets) Beach Shack at Footprints last weekend. We bought a 2 night stay voucher from a 'daily deal' company which cost $299 inc. a bottle of wine, which was good value and considerably cheaper than the rack rate. (NB: You could 'upgrade' to a beach shack with 2 bathrooms for an extra $50 per night but we didn't feel it was worth paying extra).

Room facilities were good. Main bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a second bedroom with 2 x bunk beds downstairs. A small lounge/dining/kitchen and laundry/second toilet also downstairs. All furniture clean and in good condition. TV/DVD player in the lounge. Large deck out the back with two sun lounges, looking out onto the native gardens (and occasional visiting kangaroo). Only complaint was there wasn't an oven in the kitchen (though a microwave and cook-top - and surprisingly an dishwasher!) but we would have liked an oven to heat up food not suitable to microwave (e.g. pastries). Also would have appreciated more washing-up detergent (they give you one small sachet per stay - would suggest to BYO so you aren't caught out at checkout and have to purchase some from the general Store in order to clean your dishes - $25 charge if you leave crockery/cutlery/glassware unwashed).

Facilities at Footprints are very good. The tennis court is in good condition and we used it a fair bit during our stay (we brought our own balls & racquets but you can hire equipment there). Similarly there are bikes for hire should you wish to cycle around the little town. Our kids brought their scooters (as it seemed did most of the other children staying there that weekend!) as the meandering paths are good for the young ones to head off for a bit if independent exploring. The pool was excellent - surprisingly heated which was perfect for us as the temperature on the weekend we stayed was unseasonaly mild and we appreciated being able to use the pool well into the evening without feeling chilly. There is also a small and shallow pool for toddlers adjacent to the main pool, as is a snack bar where you can purchase drinks, chips etc.

The restaurant on site is OK. Serves the standard cafe fare (pizzas, steaks, chicken, fish'n'chips etc) - pricey but large portions. You can order pizzas to take back to your room, if desired. We didn't eat breakfast there as we took our own cereals, pastries etc but there is a Sunday breakfast buffet for (I think) $20 pp. Provisions are available next door at the General Store if you want to pick up a hot chicken, pie/sausage roll etc but prices are VERY expensive (e.g. a tiny jar of Vegemite - which we'd forgotten to pack - cost an jaw-dropping $6.) On the plus side, they serve good Yahava coffee for take-away.

The Old Coast Road Brewery which is about 20 mins south of Preston Beach is recommended for a casual lunch.

All in all we had a terrific weekend (including some great fishing off the beach - herring, whiting and taylor all abundant!) and would recommend Footprints for a short getaway with family or friends.

We stayed at Footprints in early January for 4 nights. Really enjoyed our stay, the cabins are great. The main bedroom was upstairs which was very comfortable but my knees didn't like it ( I am 63, my husband 69, and permanent granddaughter 8) The second bedroom held 4 bunk beds I ended up sleeping down stairs as a small person wouldn't sleep alone down stairs!! The kitchen was nice, the utensils adequate, a steamer saucepan would be nice seeing there are only 2 hotplates. We used the BBQ 2 nights and ate at the restaurant 1 night, ok. The small general store was great for general items and they had a great menu which we used a few time. I thought there was a play ground for the kids but it isn't complete yet or we couldn't find it? There was a great climbing frame with ropes. Our little monkey loved it, she also loved seeing the kangaroos on the golf course, and the pool, and riding her bike around. I had a great restful time which I needed.

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon - relaxing on a sun lounge on the shady verandah listening to the cicadas, watching the galahs being galah's (swinging on the power lines) and reading a good book. Footprints was a very pleasant weekend away from the daily routine - only a short walk to the beach for fishing, relaxing, or if you're lucky like we were, watching the dolphins play in the waves. The accomodation was clean, tidy and had everything we needed (although next time we'll bring our own pillows). Had dinner in the resort cafe which was delicious, and the waitresses were wonderful, but the meal delivery was quite slow. The kids loved the pool table in the games room, but opted for the beach over the pool as there were too many small children for a teenager's need for space. The kangaroos are awesome and come around the units in the evening - a short walk around town and we saw at least 50 roos on lawns and in the bush. Will definitely be back!
