“A must and well worth your time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

Soo, you have decided to visit Umea and want to find the Best reastaurant in town? Well, there are several decent options in the city centre, but if you won´t mind the extra effort of going to the city outskirts, you should consider trying Le Garage! As a non-local, you will have trouble finding it on your own, but any taxi driver will get you there in less than 15 min from the City centre or if you would dare the public bus transport system, about 10 min longer.
Anyway, upon arrival the restaurant building will not raize your expectations - it seems to live up to it´s somewhat discouraging name and the rather sparingly decorated room where the tables are placed, strenghtens this impression. However, all is turned about by the warm welcome of the staff, and the very promising smells that passes over the big counter just in front of the entrance, behind which a number of very professional chefs are working.
Staff will take care of you immidately, escort you to your seats and present the menue. Le Garage did have a three course menu for dinner but you are free to select from the whole a´la Carte menu and make your own combinations. A very welcome asset is the option of having half a helping of any or most of the courses, an option we exploited to our own great satisfaction. For the suggested Dinner menue, a selected wine package was on offer, but our waitress could suggest well matched alternatives from the winelist when asked about alternatives.
Serving was promt, even though the venue was quite crowded. Excellently prepared, enticingly flavoured and due to the system of half - full portions, satisfying in bulk for both female and man.
Serving was very professional without any "snottyness", you felt as a welcome guest rather than a paying customer and genuinly helpful! Any special requests were promtly resolved.
As for the monetary part, this facility is not on par with any Burger stand, you will have to put in the extra Buck in order to be able to leave in good grace, but I will rather pay a bit extra and leave as satisfied as I did, with a smile on my face and not with a growl in my throat! As always in our part of the world, drinks will increase more than your mood, but if you just consider the value of what you may eat, this is not your avarage overpriced "local" restaurant with aspirations of earning a star in Guide Michelin by attitude alone, this is a restaurant that may well earn it in the end by putting an a lot of hard work, high quality in all it´s service and raw material as well as this extra, hard to define quality of :)

“One of the best in Umeå”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2011

Very nice restaurant in the outskirts of Umeå. Small menu, but delicious food and great service. This restaurant is mentioned in White Guide for a reason! Staff is very nice and service-minded. The location is the only negative about it, a few kilometers from the city center, but it's worth the trip. After the meal, you should go for a walk in the Umedalen Sculpture Park, just next to the restaurant. But watch out - it's often fully booked, so be in time if you have no reservation!

“A special meal in a special place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2011

This is a wonderful restaurant. It is a bit out of town but it is worth the effort it takes to get there. The food is terrific and the service is first-rate - these folks love their food (which is a mix oi local products and French cuisine). Relaxed, friendly and open. A real treat.

“Great food, atmosphere and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2011

We had a great meal here! French inspired, but organically and locally grown ingredients when available. Nice and cozy atmosphere. One of the owners was there cooking when we ate (Peter) - he seemed to know everything about wine, he chose really good wines with the meal for us. The menu is not to extensive, instead they focus on quality. Try the fish soup if they have it , it is great!
