“Very Friendly Sweden”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

It's a good thing I like soft beds. This bed was very very soft.
Pillows and blankets were nice too.

The shower was the highlight for me. It had the most consistent temperature of anywhere I have stayed, and easily adjustable, with a safety stop just under 100 deg F. so you don't inadvertently burn yourself. But while the water temperature was good and the water pressure was sufficient, the bottom of the tub was pretty narrow.

The room and bathroom size varied pretty widely in the range of rooms that me and my coworkers had. Some large bathrooms, some small. Mine had two sinks, others had one. My room had two twin beds separated. Others had two twin beds pushed together. Some rooms had two beds smaller than twins.
There was no iron in the room and the laundry service was pricy.
There was a blow dryer in the room, but it was in the closet and not movable from there to the bathroom.

The television was a decent sized flatscreen mounted to the wall that is on an adjustable arm.
It had a decent selection of channels and showed lots of American shows.

The Stairs were very very wide and nice, but I never had to wait too long for their one elevator.
The elevator requires a keycard to go up, and the doors from the stairs to the floor hallways required a card also.

Breakfast was one of the nicest that I have seen in Europe. Lots of breads, meats, fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, thin pancakes (not quite crapes), American Style Bacon, and [Swedish] Meatballs.

The staff was fantastic, very welcoming and friendly.

The hotel does have underground secured parking available, and everything within Luleå is within walking distance.

Room Tip: Unless you are choosing based on price only, call them to ask for a specific room type or size.

I agree with the previous correspondant. The hotel is better outside than in. I stayed for one night on a business trip. It cost €200!! For this I expect a lot but did not get it. Room was only average size. It faced into the middle area. The paint on the windows was cracked and peeling. Very (too) soft bed. In the bathroom there was no shelf above the sink - you have to arrange your stuff around the sink, not easy. There was no tooth mug - I had too get it from the room. The fridge contained only a few soft drinks. For a very expensive "Elite" hotel the toilet paper was the cheapest, thinnest, hardest available. That is unacceptable.
The breakfast was OK but nothing like a good Swedish breakfast. No fish, the ham was only so-so. I can get a similar breakfast in any hotel in Germany for €70 per night.
On the positive side, the WiFI was free and fast enough. The Britsih pub attached was very good, nice atmosphere

This seems to me like a hotel that used to be good, but is not any more.

The room was really warm, and we could not find any way to control the temperature ourselves. We could not really find any good power outlets to be able to charge the cell phone. Besides this, the room was comfortable enough, but we were not impressed with the cleaning. We found a winter hat and gloves under the bed, which means that no one had been cleaning there since winter time, and we stayed during the summer.

The breakfast service is terrible. The space is too small, so it always feels really crowded. While we were there, they were temporarily out of eggs, scrambled eggs, bread, butter and who knows what.

Parking is expensive for the area (170 SEK), and we could barely fit our car in the garage beause people had been parking in double parking lots.

The location is good for exploring central Luleå. Internet and office services are good, and the staff is friendly, but we will choose a different hotel if we come back.

Good location, breakfast and friendly staff. Quite small rooms if you go for the cheap ones. Nothing else to complain about really.

Fine hotel for the start of a Swedish holiday. Good view over the Park and a short walk to the coast.

Breakfast fine, dinner was OK but nothing special.

Standard hotel at good location and ok for business travellers. Great location in the middle of the city and a really good breakfast buffet.

Location 9/10:
Since this is a very small city in northern part of the country; if the location is in the city, its good. Within minutes walking distance from the central station and to the city center with stores and restaurants. Easy access if you come driving and only 15 min from the airport with taxi.

Lobby/Check-in 4/10:
A very average and nothing special about this check in counter. Looked very average and nothing special at all. A very small sitting area, but that’s it. No fruits or newspapers.

Room 4/10:
The rooms are old style and a bit worn down, which is for the furniture as well Good size superior room, with two single beds, but minus for a very small bed cover. There was no no safe, nor any coffee/tea maker or espresso machine. Just me being picky, but when you have a shoe horn in the room, and then you see on the cleaning trolly outside that they have shoe shine and shoe mitt, but have not put any in their superior room; that’s a mistake. The bathroom is old and looks very standard with no special things at all. It was a bit small and no slip protection in the bathtub. Internet is free, but very slow. Also saw on the cleaning trolley, that they had toothbrush set, but that was not in our room neither. Many small mistakes here and there.
The sitting chair in the room is of a fabric that easily leaves stains, and it looked really old and dirty.

Restaurants 7/10:
The breakfast buffet is good, with a good of choices of hot and colds. A big plus is the pancakes with cloudberry jam, which is very special and rare in other hotels, but up here, its standard. A big plus! Another plus was the hot milk as a choice to the coffee, which I always want. Minus was that there were no espresso machine or to make other coffees.

Had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, Tallkotten, which was good standard. The food was good and nothing to complain about here.

Other:
There is a normal gym (paid membership for locals) in the building, that hotel guests have free access to, which is very good. Cannot comment on the conference part. A big plus was the late checkout offered on all Sundays, until 6 pm.
