“Stay anywhere else”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Booked a one night stay here, only because everything else in town was booked. This is the most over priced hotel we have ever spent a night. The staff seem professional and friendly, but the hotel is really terrible. It is an old building - some of the rooms have been renovated and others have not, or possibly some of the bathrooms. Also some rooms have a mini fridge and others do not. The carpets in the hotel need to be replaced or the cleaning staff needs some proper vacuum cleaners. Upon entering the room, we noticed it was satisfactory [the beds and furniture], however the bathroom was not cleaned. The head of the cleaning department also came to look at the mess that was left for us. We were moved to another room, and provided with a free-stay, but this was ridiculous and honestly I just wanted 50% compensation. While this is may be a once in a life event, our sleep was disturbed the entire night by a snoring guest. It is uncertain even where the guest was sleeping, because the walls, floors/ceiling are extremely thin. I probably would have skipped this review, but these prices are fully horrible for such an overrated place.

We stayed for 3 nights. Our initial room was a bit smokey (just below the smoking area?), so we moved one on the 1st floor. We looked out over the iron mines and the distant mountains and windfarm. They were covered in snow, and the mines added interest to the view. The hotel was next door to the tourist information (who we found not particularly helpful - just 1 girl who said 'everything is booked'), and right by the airport bus. The town centre (as such) was a short walk away.
Some of the hotel is a bit dated (probably going to be demolished when they move the town) but our room was comfortable and modern, with a lovely shower.
We had breakfast in the hotel. There was a wide variety - including reindeer broth one day! Particularly liked the choice of cereals - make your own muesli. We also bought salads from reception for lunch one day, as everywhere in town was crowded. The salads were good - smoked salmon and bulgar wheat. Although we ate in town 1 evening, on our last night we tried Momma's Steak House in the hotel. We opted for the moose steaks, which were cooked beautifully, Our meal was excellent, and much cheaper than in town.
Other facilities - free internet, alarm calls if Northern Lights available (for small fee), pleasant lounge for tea and coffee.
While there we booked night time dog-sledding and a visit to the Moose Farm - despite the tourist info girl saying it was all booked. This was my first visit to a moose farm, and feeding them bananas was fun.
There was lots to do in the area, and this hotel is a good base for all the activities.

Room Tip: Rooms looking towards the mountains are probably more interesting.

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel was really nice, staff friendly. My husband had informed the staff that it was my birthday and they upgraded us to a junior suite which was brilliant. It was a large room with a separate sitting area and the view was lovely over the mines and the country side, we even managed to see the Northern Lights from the window. The buffet breakfast was really nice with plenty of variety and always well stocked up. The location was great, the information offfice and guidetour office was just around the corner. The bus to the airport was also only a few steps away, the times it went to the airport connected with departure flights which was really handy and cost approx £5. The small gym was nice and they also had a table tennis table which was good fun. The hotel had a relaxed feel to it. Internet also available. Had a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view over the mines, mountain.

Hi! Thank you very much for your great response about us. Me and my colleagues are very happy to hear that you had a pleasant stay here. Also good to hear that you got the chance to experience the magnificiant northern lights just outside your window - it sure is fantastic when you get to see it. We all hope to see you here again soon! Best regards, Lisa

My friend and I stayed here for one night to catch a flight out of Kiruna. The SJ train ended up paying for our accommodation. This hotel was so clean and Scandinavian!!! I loved it. There was a kids play area which was great because we were traveling with a 4 year old. There must have been a convention of gorgeous men while we were there. That was a plus. Breakfast buffet was extensive and wonderful. Loved the bread and cheese. The restaurant attached to the hotel was great too. The bartender was really kind. Overall great place!

My wife and I stayed 3 nights here on a short winter break to, hopefully , see the aurora. We booked their advance rate at a very reasonable price, particularly by swedish price standards.
The hotel is right in the centre of Kiruna and the airport bus stops within about 25 metres. The hotel is modern-ish (Swedish chic??) with clean, comfortable rooms and spotless trendy bathrooms. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming and always happy to answer queries re. aurora conditions and general tourist information queries. Breakfast was extensive, some of it very Swedish (more varieties of crispbread than you can shake a stick at) but covering all the bases of cooked, cold, breads etc. The only slight let down was a lack of fresh fruit. The hotel was remarkably quiet and peaceful, even though it was full booked, and the sleep quality was excellent.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and found the hotel to be a warm and welcoming haven when we needed respite from the -15 temperatures outside.

Room Tip: Beware the airport bus on arrival at Kiruna airport. There is only one service timed to coincide wit...

This hotel is by no means a conventional "4-start" hotel, but it is a nice hotel for Kiruna. The hotel looked old, however it is clean, the beds are comfortable. We had a corner room #402, it had windows over looking the town center and the mountain range beyond. We were blessed with the most romantic arctic rosy sunrises for 2 morning, the view looking out to the pink snowy fields and rosy mountain was just fantastic.

The hotel is about 5 min walk to the train station, but walking from the train station would take much longer since it'll be a mostly uphill walk. Breakfast buffet has a good variety of choices, the lobby area also sells cold sandwiches, nuts, snacks and hot coffee 24 hrs/day which is a great convenience.

There is one restaurant in the hotel, it serves simple dinner buffet until 7pm, and then offers A la Carte menu after 7pm.

Room Tip: #402 has beautiful view of the town and mountain range

The hotel is close to the railway station and in the city center.
The room was equipped with a hair dryer, an iron and good curtains. It was comfy and we didn't feel the cald from the outside at all.
Good breakfast, but it was quite hard to find a place to sit and eat it on New Year's Day - when the hotel was fully booked.
The only disadvantage was the closed bar - maybe it was because of the New Year's Day (and the next day).

Room Tip: Nice view to the mine
