Cool how the building is made entirely of wood - except for the iron bars wrapped around the huge structural beams.
As the church is not constantly manned, there is only the possibility to light a rememberance candle on Fridays for an hour or so (since again, the church is all wood!).

a church building unlike any other we've seen. make sure you save a bit of time to go see it.
we were unable to see the inside as a service was happening, but the outside was quite lovely.

The church is very beautiful and keept in a old stile, like the norwegian stavchurches. You must visit the place

A shape of the building is interesting itself - it was inspired by traditional lapp houses - it is good to go round and see all statues places on the roof. There is also a bell tower near to the main entrance. The church is open during a day, so visitors don't have to book time or look for keys to go inside.

There is no dedicated parking - at least I couldn't find any - but visitors can park their cars in the nearby.

Kiruna church is definitely a must. It was built about 100 years ago, entirely of wood and should resemble the Sami people's huts (kåta in Swedish). Inside the church the smell of tar is apparent, which makes the atmosphere even more solemn. The smell of tar is a result of a mistake when they tarred the roof a few years ago (tar leaked into the church and forced the church to close for months). Now the roof is replaced and painted in a traditional Swedish red soluble paint. It is very nice. If you only have a short time in Kiruna, the church is the obvious choice. The altarpiece was painted by a real prince, and depicts a Tuscan landscape. Really cool. You can see the original painting at the steps of the pulpit.
