Description: Welcome to Restaurant Camp Ripan... ...and welcome to the exciting city of Kiruna, where the Swedish, Sami and Torne Valley Finnish cultures meet. Most of our produce comes from our three cultural regions, something we would like to tell you more about. Every dish has its own history. We know where the reindeer wandered and the fish were caught. Our kitchen follows the seasons - all eight of them. Completely according to the ageold Sami traditions. Our dishes are prepared with care, following traditional recipes and spiced with new twists and influences from around the world Restaurang Ripan strives to always choose the most eco-friendly and ethical alternative. Our coffee is eco-certified and we no longer serve bottled carbonated water. The water we serve comes from pristine glacier-fed rivers and is praised as the purest and besttasting in the world. Our goal is to give you a dining experience that moves your senses. Enjoy your meal!

We set out for an evening walk in the snow and became hungry so when we came across Camp Ripan and saw the menu we decided to give it a try. Several of us opted for traditional Swedish meal including reindeer and lingonberry. The meal was cooked very well and tasted lovely but on our budget it was a relatively expensive meal - from 15 euro for main courses, especially when drinks were included.

The restaurant was very nice, a classy establishment but they accepted us dressed in snow gear & hiking boots :)

We visited in Feb 2010 not Feb 2013.

On a whole Kiruna is gravely wanting for good and varied restaurants. Camp Ripan is the one oasis in this otherwise barren restaurant landscape.

At Camp Ripan the food and service is usually of a high quality, head and shoulders above others in the area. The food is a mix of the usual French-Swedish cousin with but with regional touches such as a focus on game and local herbs and berries.

We went to camp Ripan for dinner in a sunny evening. Obviously quite a popular place, we had to wait for half an hour for a table to be able to sit outside. There was however free tables indoor.
I had moose and chips made from blood of reindeer, it was very tasty, and staff was really service minded. The menu is quite restricted though.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and found it to be even better than we expected given that it just didnt look like a place for such a high-quality restaurant - but looks were deceiving. We had reindeer and moose for the first time, and found it to be delicious and well prepared and presented. The whole meal was extremely satisfying and enjoyed by all.

Also, I see some mention of the cost of the meal - it is true: Nothing, Nowhere is inexpensive up there, or in Scandinavia for that matter, so I don't hold it against them.

This is my favourite restaurant in Kiruna. Though rather expensive (like everything else beyond the arctic circle...) it is totally worth it. Local delicacies are perfectly cooked and presented, which leaves a very nice impression. Together with Ice Hotel restaurant and Old Homestead in Jukkasjärvi they make my three top favourites in the northern Sweden.
