And it's free. Whenever we visit Rotorua we make a point of taking time out to visit this beautiful tranquil spot with majestic Redwood trees and crystal clear water. The colour of the water in parts is a cool aqua colour with varying shades of green grasses swaying in the currents. Well worth a visit to this unspoilt spot - the only facility that needs to be there is a toilet please!

I'd never heard of Hamurana Springs but it was so idyllic and amazingly clear. I would go back again. Wrap up warm in winter though!

After a walk from the car park over the stream and through a rural patch you come to a serene place with hundreds of mature 50 metre high Redwood Trees. On the left is the crystal clear Hamurana Stream. Further up you arrive at a lookout over the place where millions of litres of water bubble up from the spring. Walking back the stream is on your left and the golf course is on your right. A 15 minute drive from downtown Rotorua takes you to this wonder and it is FREE of charge.

We took a little time out on our way north from Rotorua to do this walk and were delighted that we had. It must be one of the most exquisite short walks ever - through massive redwoods along a stream running from a natural crystal clear spring. The colours are unbelievable. By the time we did this walk we had become almost blase about the beauty of New Zealand - this was among the best we saw!

We crossed the bridge from the car park (beware marauding water fowl, in fact attach yourself to someone with a dog if possible for this bit) and walked through the redwoods (planted 1919) up to the springs themselves, which were beautiful. We returned on the opposite bank (the golf course side) which took us by Dancing Sands Springs which is also well worth a look. There is no charge for this walk (flat and easy) and it's well worth doing, taking under an hour all told.
