Paddled Hamurana Springs with Rotorua Paddel Tours, a great and easy way to make your way to the spring itself! It's a clear turquoise water paradise. Stop in the middle of the river and reach down to get some of the wild lemon-mint growing all over the place!

A chance turn in the road brought us to this magical place. From the outside the reserve is unassuming but the moment you step into it you'll be greeted by the most crystal clear water I've seen. I had to blink to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me, but the water is just so amazing. The underwater foliage left me mesmerized - it looks like it was landscaped but it's all a work of nature! The leisurely 30-min walk leads you to the springwater source which has a convenient viewing deck. Don't forget the dancing sands in the nearby stream. All in all an enchanted place.

This was a diversion on our way to our hotel. I have been to Rotorua many times and did not know it was here. After a short walk through some very large redwoods you get to a deep spring with crystal clear water.

I have lived in NZ all my life and although i can say our scenery and waters are picture perfect - Hamurana is out of this world beautiful!. This place is just stunning and now one of my favourite places to visit. The water is CRYSTAL clear and the wildlife in it is abundant. The walk around the reserve is about 30 minutes return and thats a slow steady pace - no massive hills to climb just a nice stroll through the redwood forest with a beautiful spring stream. NO fishing or hunting is allowed at this reserve which is great as this protects the wildlife in this picture perfect haven.

Would recommend it to everyone.

Went to Hamurana Springs to do a snorkel today and what an amazing world it is when you venture beneath the surface! It's a wonderful experience taking the lovely walk across the bridge and through the redwood grove to the springs and back, but a snorkel back to the bridge is the icing on the cake! Visibility is 100%, the trout are curious, the sand is brilliant white and the forests of freshwater plants are an outstanding feature forsure! Be sure to take a wetsuit -its a chilly 10 degrees! And ensure there's lots of sunshine as it makes it all the more spectacular!
