Owner description: Experience the unique joy of traveling along a railway line in your own powered self-drive railway vehicle, called a RailCruiser. The RailCruiser is a fully automated, state of the art petrol-electric four seat self-drive railway vehicle, with comfortable seats and unobstructed views. It is fitted with clear drop down waterproof sides. Departing from Mamaku Railway Station travel 10km through a majestic 1000 year old native forest, past rolling pastures with views out over Lake Rotorua to Tarukenga Railway Station. After a short break at Tarukenga whilst the RailCruisers are turned, you return in your RailCruiser back to Mamaku. Cruising along at 20km/hr, you can listen to the audio tour. This is the ultimate way to experience a railway.

“Unique & Pleasurable”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This was great experience. Everything was made in NZ except the electric motors and the people that operate it are very friendly, committed & safety concious. The scenery was gorgeous and it was a lot of fun!

“Good experience but over priced”
Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

The experience was good but there is not much to see yet. The commentary is of interest. Staff are excellent. Time on track was 1 hour 10 mins. Will be good when rail takes you into Rotorua. The little cruisers are spacious and fun. At $76 a head, this was quite expensive.

“A great thing to do”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

This was a really neat piece of kiwi ingenuity! A great trip through the countryside (rain or shine) for all ages. Good safety briefs and very professional crew. Rail cars are spacious and easy to get in and out of. Great commentary along the track. Very unique experience for NZers and tourists alike
