My wife and I having taken up Hillwalking decided to make the trip to southwest Donegal to visit Slieve League or Sliabh Liag to have a look at the cliffs and scenery. We went up from Dublin on the Friday and left on the Tuesday and did lots of cliff walks on the Peninsula. Slieve League Cliffs themselves are awesome - they are twice the height of the Cliffs of Moher in Clare.
We stayed in Ostan Sliabh Liag or The Slieve League Bar in the Village of Carrick and everyone was very friendly and helpfull. The rooms themselves were excellent and the building itself was basic and cheap. We were on a budget so it was ideal.
Tip - Bring all weather clothes as the weather does change and rain showers drift in quickly off the Atlantic.
We enjoyed the music in the Pubs at night and the weather was generally good so we enjoyed our time over the weekend.
The only negative is don't expect too much night life as this is the west coast of Ireland and the village got noticably a bit quieter especially on the Monday evening.
All in all if you are into Hillwalking or just want to visit Slieve League or the area its a good economy break.
