It is easy to love this place - it seems to have everything in its favour.
Firstly, we knew we'd be drinking so we took the No 86 tram from the city which lets you off at stop 32 about 100m from Estelle.
Secondly, the food is interesting, fresh, innovative / unusual and delicious. We chose to have the 7 course tasting menu (there is also 5 and 9 courses) with the adventurous drink match. This included drinks as well as wines - for example, a martini.
Also, the waiting staff are young, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive.
We sat in the courtyard at the back. When I was booking and was told this was the only spot available, I was hesitant. However, it turned out to be terrific - quieter than inside, effective heating (maybe a little too effective). Although we were sat at one end of a table where there was another couple, the table was plenty big enough and we quickly forgot they were there!
Although I was not too uncomfortable, I might have preferred a seat with a back.
We'll certainly return before too long

Heard a lot about Estelle Bar and Kitchen so was keen to try it out. Sat at the bar which was great as there were three of us and the corner spot excellent. We chose the 7 courses with paired wines. Haven't always been a fan of matched wines but this was a great idea. The sommelier had it sorted and the combinations were fabulous. The food was wonderful. From the corn and lupin dish, through the octopus and beef cheek, up to the TWO desserts each plate was thoughtful and innovative. Fresh produce, some unfamiliar ingredients but always with taste and texture as the first priority, not just novelty.
We ate at a very expensive Scandinavian restaurant last week and the food at Estelle was significantly more enjoyable. Needless to say about a third of the price too. Fantastic value in Northcote.

Had an amazing meal here - interesting and delicious food.
There are two matched wine options - classic and adventurous. We tried both, and I think that the Adventurous one won out. Really different combinations with a lot of thought put into them. A nice touch was the sommelier left the bottles on the table - so we could read the labels while we drank.
Ambience was good and the service was exemplary.
Highly recommended.

Went with friends and had the 7 courses which was certainly enough for us.

The food was all amazing, creative and really interesting. The beef cheek and the octopus were exceptional.

Try and book a table out the back, it was much quieter and more relaxing than inside. The staff were excellent and all very attentive.

What a great night, highly recommended!!!

Having recently dined there for the first time, it certainly met all the rave reviews I have heard and read. Well worth the money, only had the 5 courses but it was enough for me to feel full at the end & very contended (although if i had gone with my husband he would have needed more). The staff were very attentive and enthusiastic about the dishes (without the pretension). We sat at the bar which was great. Did not opt for the wine option as I'm not a big drinker. Favourite dish was the beef with tongue - coming from a seldom eating meat eater, this was a revelation!! Well done Estelle, will be back in the future to try a different menu.
