Owner description: The royal burial church of Denmark and a UNESCO world heritage site. Experience a magnificent church and an architectural masterpiece. 1000 Years of Danish history are gathered here under beautifully decorated vaults and in dark crypts. Here 39 kings and queens of Dnemark lie buried. Roskilde Cathedral is just 20 minutes away by train from Copenhagen central station.

You can find 20 graves of Danish kings and queens here in lavish burial chapels, on the high altar and in other places. More less distinguished people lie under the floor. There is even a ghost horse. The cathedral is the most famous one in Denmark and is in a very good shape having been restored in 2008. It's all red brick and whitewashed walls with some medieval wall paintings thrown in. The future burial monument of the reigning couple is on display as well. All this makes it one of Denmark's top attractions. It is a UNESCO World Heritage.

Beautiful cathedral, the royal crypts date back to the middle ages. Looks nearly new due to a fire in the 1960's

The cathedral is very impressive in its own tight, but coupled with its history as the royal burial chamber is a must see attracftion. Do walk around the outside as the architecture is very interesting.

All the Danish Kings and Queens have been buried here since about 1500. Each King and Queen have their own valult/chapel and the designs range from the very medieval to modern. There is even a model of the casket for the current Queen Margarethe- a plexiglass pod which looks like it came straight out of a science fiction movie.
The museum on the upper level is well worth a visit.

When coming to the city of Roskilde from North, West or South you can see this wonder from a great distance. It welcomes you and you are amazed by the greatness and the historical surroundings. Inside it looks a lot like other cathedrals, but well preserved. You will feel the history when visiting.
