Owner description: The royal burial church of Denmark and a UNESCO world heritage site. Experience a magnificent church and an architectural masterpiece. 1000 Years of Danish history are gathered here under beautifully decorated vaults and in dark crypts. Here 39 kings and queens of Dnemark lie buried. Roskilde Cathedral is just 20 minutes away by train from Copenhagen central station.

“Marvelous wonder”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

When coming to the city of Roskilde from North, West or South you can see this wonder from a great distance. It welcomes you and you are amazed by the greatness and the historical surroundings. Inside it looks a lot like other cathedrals, but well preserved. You will feel the history when visiting.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

I have visited this church several times as a child, and it is beautiful. Lots of kings, queens and royal children. About 17 queens and 20 kings I think.

“Gorgeous Cathedral and history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

If you are in Copenhagen, Roskilde is worth a visit. The Cathedral that stands at the top of the hill over looking the town is spectacular. It has so much history of the Danish monarchy, it is impressive. All the Past kings and queens buried in each section of the church in massive individual graves. The current queen has her place and it was interesting to see her tomb that has been designed already. Worth a few hours of wandering around.

“Gorgeous Cathedral constructed under Bishop Absalon in 1170s”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

If you are traveling to Copenhagen and surrounding areas, it is well worth the short train trip out to Roskilde to see this beautiful cathedral. The style is Romanesque and Gothic but with a unique, local beauty. We spent hours wandering and enjoying this town and the cathedral. On the quarter hours look up in the back corner for the intricate clock with a man ringing the bell, a woman sounding a bell, and a dragon being slain.
