“A really good day”
Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

This is a great museum as it shows old ships, or at least the parts they could reconstruct but also replications of these old ships. You can also have a look on how they are building this ships. Try out the sailing trip! It takes only an hour and you row out the boat of the harbour and then sail it back. It's a great experience for people who like sailing ships.

“Row Your Own Viking Boat”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

The Roskilde Viking Museum is centered upon exhibits of the skeletons of 5 viking boats that were scuttled in the channels in defense of the Roskilde harbor. It's interesting to see the variations in types of ships used for merchant and other purposes. There are also full reconstructions of the ships on the docks, so you can see what they may have looked like in the past. There's lots of hands on stuff for kids (and adults), including the opportunity to row your own viking boat.

“Interesting museum”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

We took the train from Copenhagen, which is an easy ride and included with the purchase of our Copenhagen Card. It was fun to learn about the Vikings and some of their ships. Joe is one-half Danish and we forget they were the Vikings also. Roskilde is a nice town to visit.

“Take a tour then a sail!”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

We had heard from others that this was a great museum and it lived up to expectations. The Danes are so innovative and persistent and it shows in this museum to the Viking Ships. We then took the very touristy sail on a replica viking boat, a bit of grunt and a great experience!

“Impressive viking ships”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

This museum has a few viking ships on display that were found nearby. They are displayed very well. A focus of the museum is on people building viking ships in the same way they used to be built. You can see this happening in the grounds around the museum and finished boats in the water. The museum itself is quite small but a good place to see the ships. The cafe has great viking hotdogs, delicious! It is about a 20 minute walk from the train station, but an easy one. If you are taking a day trip from Copenhagen then buy an all day, all zone train ticket.
