Owner description: This historic castle was constructed on three islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

“Don't get caught”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

There was lots to see in the castle and it was free with our 48 hour Copenhagen card, as was the train trip there from Copenhagen. Our big problem was our Copenhagen card expired at midday which we knew before we left Copenhagen but we decided we would just pay for a return train ticket later in the afternoon. The train ticket one way cost us 108kkr each (a ridiculous price), which is more than it would have cost us to pay for an extra 24 hours when we bought our Copenhagen card. Don't get caught like we did.

“Wonderful”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Unfortunately we arrived too late to actually visit the castle (it closes at 5 pm while the day lasts till 10.30! At least in June...), but outside it is really impressive. The fountain is beautiful and I could spend hours in those beautiful, perfectly maintained gardens. I'm really sorry we weren't able to see its rooms and chambers.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Located in a pictoroius town and gardens this castle is an excellent museaum and story of Denmark. The price is very reasonable and the staff was very helpful and nice. The garden is beautiful and open to the public. 35 minutes with the S train (E) from Kopenhagen and a short walk.
