Maybe we are being too harsh with our "average" rating but it just did not quite deserve the "very good" mark. The quality of the food however, was indeed very good; lots of locally grown ingredients presented very neatly and in portions that were perfectly sized.
The "wine experience" left a lot to be desired though. When ordering a bottle of higgh quality wine we would expect to be at least asked if we wanted it to be decanted. This did not happen. Neither were we given the wine to taste; the waiter just poured it into our glasses straight from the bottle and without a comment before walking off. As we ordered it at the same time as our 5 course menu we also would have expected to be offered some of it before the arrival of of our 3rd dish.
What a pity as Tinggaarden is clearly among the best restaurants in northern Sealand and definitely worth a visit. With just a bit more effort the owners could turn this place into a Michelin candidate, we think.
