I like the locations near the station. This one is near the station. Because of the provincial low transport intensity there is no trabsport noise or dirth and freaks.
Hotel is old, staff is OK, but not that trained and not very helpful. Equipment is old, but works. Breakfast is of Danish style, good products, but not a big variety.

When judged against its peers, Hotel Skandia isn't too bad. We stayed one night when we weren't able to find any other rooms on short notice. Our room was small but not too small, and it was clean. Our room had a private bath and it, too, was clean. We didn't experience any bad odors like previous reviewers. The streets were noisy on Saturday afternoon, but by 8:00pm all the partiers had gone home and it was quiet. Even the train crossing wasn't that loud from our room overlooking the parking area. It did not keep us awake even with the window open.

We were pleased to have secure, free parking overnight. The innkeeper was friendly and helpful. There was a plentiful selection of hot and cold choices at the breakfast buffet. We also appreciated the free Wifi. Aside from being an older structure with inexpensive furnishings, I couldn't find much to complain about. Considering how much I have paid for other hotels in Denmark, I wouldn't even say the rate was too high. Be prepared with earplugs in case you get a noisy room and you should be fine.

stayed a few nights and must admit that my expectations were highe.. fine location in terms that it is central and near the strain station and all restaurants area and monuments. But they really should think about some modernization to the hall and in particular the rooms as it feels as if time stopped . Rooms are rather small and unfurnished and not to mention the bathrooms...service is non existant but there is a nice little bar with a great bartender.

Take care when booking this hotel ! Even with discount you pay much to much !
typical old hotel with very poor service and breakfast ! we paid 120€ and got a topfloor poor room with very amateuristic paintwork at the walls.

very noisy and annoying too because of the trains who are passing through the traffic roads.

I stayed there for two nights on business trip. The Hotel was booked by colleagues that had no idea about the quality of the Hotel. I stayed in Room Nr. 1 that it leas a double room and bigger than the others but still not even 3-star Hotel. The bed is OK but the furniture is old and simple and the bathroom is small and you have to stay in the shower to use the wash basin.
The breakfast is simple but OK for the quality of the hotel.

Room Tip: You better look for a better place!

This is one of those “hotels” that has an advantage on price and location, but fails to deliver on the basics. I’d tend to describe it as a “Guest House” rather than a hotel for reasons that will become clear – except that it’s more than twice what you’d expect to pay for such accommodation in the UK.

The rooms are pretty basic, with old style sockets, and a table lamp that only had one pin on its connection, so I wasn’t sure if it was safe to use. The curtains weren't wide enough to cover the windows, so had to be adjusted depending upon where you were in the room! There is just a sink in the corner, with a shower shared between 10 or so rooms on each floor. My room was very noisy, with the lift motor being impossible to ignore, as well as the crossing signal warnings in the street when one of the local trains went past.

The breakfast was included, and was a reasonable buffet affair, although the hot choice seemed to vary depending on who prepared it – the grilled mini-sausage of Sunday morning were replaced by an unappetising looking omelette on the following two days.

I was disappointed to read a note in reception that seemed to imply Danish Legislation required them to charge an extra 3.65% on transactions made with foreign credit cards. I thus had to draw out cash to avoid this charge – despite having found out it was an optional charge the hotel had chosen to impose on its foreign guests.

Another big issue for me was that the hotel reception was unstaffed from 5pm on a Sunday evening – meaning you needed a PIN Code to get into the hotel. Unfortunately when I’d checked in the night before there was no mention of the 5pm closure – just that it would close at 10pm on Saturday evening – luckily someone took pity on me as I waited at the door.

Ironically, over the weekend it seemed like a one-man show, with the same person doing breakfast as reception, and I had initial sympathy if he did that all week – but in fact I didn’t see him during the week, with two others then in charge.

The good news is the location – which is adjacent to Helsingor railway station, and hence very close to the ferry port for the quick trips to Sweden, as well as trains to Copenhagen and North Zealand. Although it seems very expensive, by Danish standards it’s a lot cheaper than you’d find in Copenhagen – so it was one of the few times I’d found a “Copenhagen Card” to be of benefit, as that includes all the trains in the region (note that the DSB day passes don’t allow travel this far out).

I’d certainly consider staying in Helsingor again – it’s a nice little town, with good communications, but might look for an alternative to the Skandia unless they were all charging Copenhagen prices.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the lift shaft or close to the road

Me and my girlfriend stayed for only one night.
The smell on the hallway was bad, the smell in the room was worse and the bathroom was horrible. I think that there might be mold in the bathroom in our room (17).
The breakfast was nothing special at all.
If you want to spend around €100, do it somewhere else.
