The rooms a small, but nice. The beads are soft (too soft for my test). Rooms towards the yard are quieter. We had a room facing the street and did not sleep at all - when the loud music and drunk people stopped making noise the cleaning machines started :( . There is no fan or aircon (some days in Denmark can actually be quite warm) and we were therefore forced to have a window open. Its not a cheap hotel, but location in the old part of town is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the yard are quieter

It was extremely noisy...we kept awake until 4am by Friday night revellers in the street outside. It has a great central location but that also is its downfall if your stay happens to coincide with a night of partying by others. The room was very small. The breakfast was poorly organised (and late starting with hotel guests queuing up outside the bar area where it was served). Prob an ok hotel if you ate staying in the middle of the week out of season but not in high season on a Friday night!!

A nice functional little hotel very very close to the station. Excellent venue for business and wifi seams to work!!! The restaurant is nice and as a good buzz about it. The food however is very very expensive for what you get

Good food at a reasonable price. But the bar man, who complained that we did not order the same drink at the same time to save him work, and kept repeating the complaint, ruined the experience!

It may not be a big thing, but it is actually enough to ruin the night!

The check in was not so smooth because there is no reception, you have to wait for the restaurant staff (same owner, next doorway) to have time for you when you arrive.
They even had problems to find our reservation in their system.

The room was cosy but small, ok bed, small bathroom. Felt a bit old but some nice art on the walls.

The restaurant was good, with a nice out door place. We liked the breakfast and especially the coffe.

The hotel has a good location in the cosy central district of Helsingör, close to the sea and nice restaurants and bars.

I would return only for sentimental reasons.

My wife and I spent a weekend in Helsingør to see the Kronborg Castle and just do an overnight trip and this hotel was recommended via Travel Wiki as well as this site. Some of my local colleagues however said I should be concerned about the neighborhood the hotel was in and I should have listened to them as while the hotel itself was nice the neighborhood and the noise led to absolutely no sleep.

The hotel itself is a quaint "bed and breakfast" style hotel and while the rooms are small for European standards they are adequate and I had no problem with the cleanliness. The staff itself was also fine--I had asked about a particular romantic package and they warned me some about street noise for that particular room so the honesty was there. What sets the hotel apart however is its restaurant--Helsingør was hit hard by the economic downturn in 2008-2009 so many of the good restaurants closed and the restaurant at Madam Sprunck really is one of the better ones in town. The wine selection was decent; the food above average (my rib-eye steak with the red wine sauce was quite nice) and reservations are definitely recommended as it seems most of the town eats here. The breakfast setup in the morning is also fine--average by European standards but sufficient bread, cheese, coffee, tea and some hot foods to get your day started.

Sadly though this hotel should be avoided at all costs on weekends due to the bars directly across the street. While the location from the train station is very convenient (literally right across the Helsingør station) and there was an excellent wine shop right across the street as well the noise in the evening would drive anyone to another hotel. There is a particular coffee bar and disco that are open until at least 3 AM where revelers gather and their noise and the music permeates through the entire hotel. You won't sleep--you'll hear every single breaking bottle and top 40 dance track until Whitney Houston's "And I Will Always Love You" blissfully ends the noise and sends the crowds to the station and ferry to get back home.

What could have been a nice dinner and nice evening was absolutely ruined by the outside noise and I won't ever stay there again. I do feel bad for the hotel as this is entirely outside of their control but until that all night bar/coffee shop and disco shut down Madam Sprunck should focus on expanding their restaurant and handling all the reservations they get and give up on overnight accommodations unless they are counting on no repeat clientele.

Room Tip: Do not get a room anywhere close to the street side facing the bar or disco if you hope to get any s...

We went to Helsingor for an overnight, just to see the castle (this was a Saturday night stay). We booked into Madam Sprunck's and asked specifically for a quiet room when we were booking, as we'd heard that things could get loud on the streets on weekends. The hotel told us that they could accommodate our request. We were given a room on the third floor that overlooked two different bars across the road. We found that the street noise from the bar across the road was so bad that we were awake pretty much all night. Nothing the hotel could do about it, but we didn't sleep much. Not great for a romantic weekend away.

The room itself was nice, and clean. The restaurant was OK, nice food, but slow service.

Due to the noise factor we will never stay there again and will actively tell others to stay away, too.

Room Tip: Don't stay unless you get a room facing the garden, and even then, with how loud the bars are, y...
