“Unexpected find near the Danish Resistence Museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2012

Est 1746, hungry, walking back from the Museum, looking for the first place to eat...eat we did, and loved every minute...we ordered too much as the portions are full figure, however it was so good, we consumed it all, and then walked it off in downtown Copenhagen

“Excellent Value for Money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

Copenhagen is my very favourite city, but it has to be said that eating out can burn a hole in your pocket, but not so in the case of Cafe Petersborg. We ate here twice during our recent stay in Denmark and on each occasion the food was both plentiful and very tasty. There are 'specials' as well as the normal menu, and full details will be found on their website. This is a basic no frills traditional restuarant that has a nice ambience and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to eat here!

i was done with my visit kastellet, was cold and walking around looking for food. i was walking aimlessly and thought i'll go in to the first basement like restaurant that serves smørrebrød. and just around the corner i found cafe petersborg!

the place was old but charming with low ceilings, it wasn't very packed and was really cosy. i was given an english menu, they had a really wide selection of smørrebrød and i ended up having the warm fillet of fish with shrimps, asparagus and mayonnaise and a 1/4 pint of carlsberg. the food came very quickly and the portions were really generous, i had to check with my friend later if the shrimps in denmark were really cheap.

the service was efficient and the server was friendly, i enjoyed my meal and left with a happy belly. (:

“A little bit of Russia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2012

Just stopped in by chance as we were cold and the Museum of the Danish Resistance was closed. We thought it cosy, warm and full of local families. Try the Tsar's dinner- 3 diff kinds of pickled herring, pork and egg and finally cheese. Great!

“Amazing herrings, huge portions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2011

Went there three times during my 4-day stay in Copenhagen. First time (dinner), I had the three type of herrings as appetizer (you can skip the curry one, but the two others are the best I ever ate by far) and a huge pork dish, also great.

Second time (dinner) was the two kind of herring (i.e. without the curry version), just as great as the first time, and an amazingly huge Wiener Schnitzel (could only eat half of it, which is extremely rare in my case). Third time (lunch) was the Petersborg lunch, a platter of "small" (well, kinda still huge...) samples of the favorites dishes (very good VFM, though you have to consider a nap afterwards, especially if taking a "special" Carlsberg with it).

Very nice experience overall (especially the herring), great value for money (exceedingly rare in Copenhagen) and central location. Service can seem rough at first sight, but this is something along a "motherly roughness". There is officially a terrace but you would be 50cm from car exhausts at the traffic lights, so better sit in the cozy rooms. Warning: the opening hours tend to be restricted, i.e. they stop serving after 8.30pm (and do not serve Saturday evenings or on Sundays).
