“The ox shoulder was to-die-for”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Handy for our hotel and opposite the beer-heaven of Mikkeller bar, Cofoco follows the theme of identically priced 'small plates' (65kr) that you can have as many of as you want, which we had previously encountered at Radio. They 'suggest' 4 as being the norm, and offer a 500kr deal for 4 dishes of their choosing plus a suitably-matched glass of wine for each dish. This is only a modest discount on 4 dishes of your own choosing and four of the cheaper by-the-glass offerings from the wine list, so I did my own thing (eventually pigging out on 5 courses), while my partner went for the 500kr deal.

Although the menu only ran to 11 dishes (including a cheese and two puds) we managed to only overlap properly on the ox shoulder ragu with truffle, onions and potato puree which was probably the best dish we had over our entire stay in Copenhagen. Other dishes included a novel take on beef tartare with beetroot meringue, crispy chicken skin on fried little gem lettuce (much nicer than it sounds) and fried lobster with chive bearnaise and chopped peanuts.

As I was having four savoury courses to my partner's three, our waitress planned a 'break' for my partner so that we could have our (different) puds together. However the kitchen and another waiter brought my partner's banana cake pud at the same time as my ox shoulder; this didn't worry us in the slightest (our problem for having different numbers of courses) but our waitress felt sufficiently apologetic about it that when my passion fruit sorbet with liqorice arrived later, a slightly small 'extra' portion arrived for my partner so that we could 'pud' together ! One of those unnecessary extras that always endears you to a place.

Quirkily all three of our 'good' meals out in Copenhagen (at Fiskebar, Radio and Cofoco) cost pretty much exactly the same - around 1300kr for thre two of us - which was probably somewhat less than we expected to be spending in an expensive city.

“Great food, great value”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

I had a wonderful evening out with my sister at this trendy, small restaurant. The food was very nice and served in smaller portions which allow (and encourage :-) you to try more dishes. It has a rather minimalist interior and the lighting is just right. The high tables are perhaps not the most comfortable or romantic but we found it to be just right for a wednesday night dinner. The staff are very friendly.

“Excellent food in modest premises”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

This week only a fixed menu was possible; but it was very tasty. The place is in a poor part of town down a basement. Not a place, where you would expect to find a gourmet restaurant. The staff is friendly and very competent. We did choose the winemenu, which came with the menu and found the wines good and well chosen. When we saw the plates, we thought them small, but our appetite was more than satisfied.
Book in good time, as the place is very popular.

“Cofoco is a winner!”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

We've dined here twice in the past week. The food was innovative and delicious. The main course portions were small but three courses proved to be quite ample. The service was friendly and informative. The wine list is small but well-chosen. The location is not as forbidding as some reviews have suggested. Copenhagen is not a cheap city and in comparison with other restaurants Cofoco is good value for money.
