Visiting Noma was one of our main goals during the trip to Copenhagen. Of course the status of #1 in the world gave us a lot of expectations, and we were never disappointed. It was not just a lunch or a dinner it was an amazing gourmet performance. What I liked about the food, though there were a lot of servings (around 20 servings per meal, it is only one menu for everyone, but of course the waiter asks about your dislikes or some ingredients that don't stand or are allergic to), it was not too much food. All the tastes were with some nordic flavour, some of them tasted like you are in a pine forest, lying on the ground and eating berries, growing around. There were no servings that looked or tasted unpleasant, though of course one should be open minded and ready to explore before such a gourmet trip :)
Of course this is not a restaurant just to dine.

Like a well oiled machine the staff swing into action the minute you step out of the taxi. A friendly greeting by name no less and you are whisked to your table, to start an electrifying journey through a gourmand maze. The pace is quick, you are told that your first course is already on the table (which at that point contains nothing but your plate and napkin .. oh and the flower arrangement...) and then the other six snacks arrive in swift succession. That sets the tone for a performance that is a mix of magic and culinary genius. The customer service levels are incredibly high. All of the staff keep an eye out for anything that might need doing at your table and you are served by up to six or seven different waiting staff, oh and also by the chefs (how refreshing that is). Clearly the staff have been selected (or trained) in first class interpersonal skills as well as their waiting skills. The food is commented on in other reviews and I can barely add to it. But what was equally impressive was the customer service. Well done Noma - clearly you are not resting on your laurels.

Noma, in Copenhagen, Denmark was crowned as the world's best in the annual S. Pellegrino awards run by The Restaurant magazine- I went to this restaurant and I have to agree ...it is the "best in the world" if you like Nordic cuisine. The food is very tasty ,creative and beautifully served in non presumtuous serveware like tin cookie cans.... I was pleasantly surprised of the casual and very friendly atmosphere. The service was amazing... the waiters made the experience even more extraordinary.... so It was definitely and experience....a great experience.

Knew we were planning a trip to Copenhagen, so we decided to make reservations for Noma online back in July for our September trip. Of course, securing a reservation was non-existent, as such we decided to sign up for the waitlist and hoped we would be contacted prior to our arrival. We were never contacted so when we arrived in Copenhagen I called the restaurant with no success, however when I called the next day we were able to secure dinner reservations for 2 that evening at 8:00pm! Moral of the story, it is possible to get reservations at the #1 restaurant in the world! When we arrived to the restaurant we were greeted very warmly and whisked away to our table! I have to say, the service was superb (albeit a bit forward- when we were presented with the check we were boldly asked that we could add a tip if we enjoyed the service) Anyway, you are immediately overwhelmed by the quick succession of "snacks" brought to the table by the individual chefs responsible for preparation. During this blitz of "snacks", you are also eating with your fingers the entire time! It was quite humorous, especially when I was instructed by the chef to swipe the dried carrot over the "soot" and then the sorrel dip! The most memorable of the 12 were the moss and the sorrel leaf with cricket paste! Yes, cricket paste! Sorrel was also very dominant throughout the menu (no red meat at all!). And so the meal continued with more substantial offerings such a pike, turbot, fava beans, etc...all with various foraged plants and herbs scattered about! The warm, hearty bread was fantastic and served with "virgin butter" (butter with the buttermilk churned back in by hand I suppose) and pure pork fat! I am assuming this is how Vikings use to eat? Who knows! Desserts were very light, plant like and ants were involved, so when the chocolates came out I was thrilled! The whole meal lasted about 3 1/2 hours, we really enjoyed every minute of it and everything was surprisingly tasty! So if you are the type that cannot fathom eating ants, cricket paste, or even an unfamiliar looking plant/vegetable, Noma is not for you! Another plus, was the chance to tour the kitchen with Executive Head Chef, Matt Orlando and see the young chefs and the rest of the staff (all attractive too - LOL) "back of the house" in action! The damage (no alcohol) was over $600.00 US dollars ($40.00+ alone for the "house water" and 2 coffees). I guess the best restaurant in the world can get away with that! But we were there, we got in and why not! It was a great experience! Another tip: pay with cash, if you do not want to be charged the credit card fee.
