“Great location, accomodations so-so”
Reviewed April 27, 2009

This apartment hotel had a superb location, breakfast was good but I haven't stayed anywhere else in Copenhagen so I don't know what to compare it to. I thought it was good, but not exceptional like others said. The rooms were clean and it had a seperate living area and kitchen. Bed was suprisingly comfortable despite the grungy-looking bedspread (which we just ripped off) and the bed was all wrapped in clean sheets (Westin-style). Bathroom was very clean. The room was only so-so, though, I would give it a 3 star MAX, it was stuffy and the decor was dated. Hallways smelled of smoke. Staff was rude.

We chose this hotel because we wanted an apartment style room and even paid more for a penthouse so we would have the biggest room, good views and a terrace. When we arrived, we found an apartment with a strange smell, filthy kitchen, a mix of old furniture that looked like it was bought from a bric a brac shop and horrible lumpy beds with worn out matresses camouflaged with extra duvets to hide the lack of springs. We had them reclean the room to get rid of the smell but they still left us with a filthy kitchen. The next morning they promised to have the kitchen cleaned properly but did not even touch it. There was old food on the stove and the counters. The kitchen had a coffee maker but they did not even leave provisions for one mornings coffee or even a drink in the room. The photos of these apartments on the website are very misleading. They show modern danish furniture and bright new kitchens. We had the most expensive apartment in the block and the amenities did not even come close to the descriptions. We moved to another hotel close by and had a much better experience! The only positive about this apartment hotel was the location which is right next to the large movie theatres and Tivoli. And if I´m being honest, it also had a nice sofa (unless you want to use it as a sofabed).

We absolutely loved this place! The location can't be beat; it's practically in sight of Tivoli and within easy walking distance of the pedestrian shopping area. Central Station with direct train service from the airport is just a couple of blocks away, easily walked even with luggage. We arrived early after an overnight flight and were shown to our room after a very short wait. The desk personnel were extremely helpful and spoke perfect English. The included buffet breakfast was excellent, and it was served in a large, very attractive dining room. Fresly baked breads, wonderful jams and cheeses, fruits, yogurt, cereals, as well as eggs, ham, and sausages -- everything was delicious and would have cost a pretty penny if purchased separately somewhere else. We prepared most other meals in our apartment kitchen, which included a two-burner rangetop, a microwave, a small refrigerator, sink, and cabinets. There were adequate pots, pans, silverware, and dishes. A nice grocery store is just around the corner. There was a large dining table, sofa, etc. in the living-dining area. The toilet is separate from the bathroom and is located off the entrance foyer. The bathroom is off the bedroom and includes a large tub with shower and sink. There is a large mirror and hair dryer. The bed was very comfortable with two down duvets, you can just sort of wrap yourself up in them and sleep snug and warm. The apartment is incredibly large for Copenhagen. Some people may be taken aback by the "nudie bar" underneath the apartment portion of the Ascot Hotel, but we never heard any noise from it or saw anything improper. Other stores underneath included a beauty salon and some type of health foods outlet. A large movie theatre complex is nearby, as are many, many restaurants. The only problem we experienced was some noise from a dinner show type of restaurant just behind the complex, as we were on the back side. Employees were rattling bottles of some sort late into the night when the restaurant was open, which was not every night. This didn't really bother us because we were so tired from the day's wanderings. Let me say that we had considered the Adina Apartments and the Copenhagen Island Hotel before we booked the Ascot. We saw these other hotels, and the location of the Ascot is far more central and convenient for anyone who likes to walk. The price is also considerably less. Tours of Copenhagen leave from the square just across from the Ascot, too, making it even more convenient. The kitchen saved us lots of money, as I love to shop in European markets and grocery stores and cook simple meals. We stayed five nights just before a cruise, and I'd love to do it again.

This hotel/apartment is perfectly situated. It's about a block from Tivoli (restaurants; outdoor entertainment; amusement park); about a block from storgard (pardon spelling...outdoor pedestrian shopping) and maybe a mile from nyhaven (fantastic outdoor canal; restaurants; hans christian anderson home). i'm sure there's not a better location in copenhagen. the apartment was lovely and a very good size; value for our family of three. i'd think it was fabulous BUT it's right above a nightclub and on the same street as several other night clubs. i'm basing this on saturday night, but the partying; and noise was so loud from the clubs; restaurants and maybe even from tivoli that we felt as though we were there! this went on until 4 o'clock in the morning. i don't know if it's like this during week nights as well. i have only good things to say about the apartment itself and it's location. you just must know that we've never heard loud music and noise like this before so you should be wear.

Just got back from a week in Copenhagen. Our stay at the Ascot was a true highlight of the trip. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. after an all night flight, fulling expecting to wander around until our room was ready at 2:00. Imagine my delight when the receptionist checked me in and said the room was ready early! I nearly stammered rechecking the info., but we were able to get a nap before wandering around. Location wise, this is the best. Close to everything from the train station to the large bus areas at the Town Square. Convenience store below the hotel and grocery store on the next corner. I will note that we rented a penthouse apartment. It was not much more expensive ($55 per night), and the balconies (2) were worth it for catching the breezes. My husband and I were travelling with our two teenagers and wanted the extra room. I lived in Copenhagen during college and travelled through Europe so was prepared for plain and tiny, but the apartment was spacious and clean. When we walked in (3 hours early) a maid was preparing the extra beds for the kids. I have heard the bed coverings in other reviews referred to as "odd", but once you have slept with a danish dyne you will want one for your bed at home! We had a nice sized bedroom, comfortable bed. The kids slept on a sofa bed and cot already in place when we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with glasses and all else we needed, and although the dishwasher was full of clean dishes, we laughed and put them away. Seriously, the breakfast is wonderful. Food in Copenhagen is beyond expensive, so the best advice I can offer is to eat the breakfast. We were not hungry again until dinner. The coffee machine is the best I've had anywhere. The service was A plus. Our electric converter broke, and my husband asked where he could buy another, but the receptionist dug around and found one that another guest had left. Just gave it to him, and was glad to help. A tip on street noise. You are in a big, fun loving city. If you travel by air keep the ear plugs and sleep mask from the plane. We had no problems with noise. Will only stay at the Ascot in Copenhagen. Who can turn down an apartment at a reasonable price in one of Europe's more expensive cities?

Although I had booked at the Ascot Hotel, me and a friend of mine were given a room at the Ascot Apartments. Nothing to complain because it was a small room but very well furnished, with a little refrigerator + sink and plates.
The hotel is well located, about 4 blocks from the Central Station and only 2 blocks from the main shopping district (a long street that leads to the most beatiful places of the city).
The breakfast was included on the price and it was OK.
We arrived very early in the morning and our room was not ready, so we left our luggage at the storeroom in order to walk around the city and make time until the check in time arrived. When I booked I was told that this would be at 2 PM, but at the front desk I was told that it would be at 3 PM. One of the girls at the desk was not kind at all, but the other provided a relative good service.
I'd recommend this hotel to those who are traveling to Copenhaguen and don't want to spend a big fortune in lodging: the price I found was not cheap, but considering the the other options and location this one seemed above the average level.

We stayed both at the Ascot Hotel and the Ascot Apartments while in Europe for a Baltic Cruise with Celebrity. The check in and check for both the apartments and the hotel are the same and I must say the service was first rate. The breakfast, included with our room, was excellent - plenty of choices and, despite large numbers of guests, there was plenty of supply. We first stayed at the Apartments prior to the cruise-- the apartment we booked was just fine with a kitchen, living area and separate bedroom with en suite bath. The bedroom was literally the tiniest I've ever seen-- just wide enough for the full sized bed and about 3 feet at the foot of the bed leading to the bathroom. The bathroom was quite large by European standards and was very comfortable. As far as the tiny bedroom goes, since we just slept in there and had a very large living area it wasn't a problem (except to get out of bed you have to climb down to the foot of the bed. . . no room on the sides of the bed!). The apartments are not air conditioned which was only a problem because, while it was comfortable in the apartment with the windows open, it was REALLY noisy with the windows open. We then stayed in the hotel in a regular hotel room at the end of our cruise. The room was actually just fine with the exception of the aforementioned noise with the windows open for comfort. There was room to walk around the bed in the hotel room and again, the bathroom was bigger than in most European hotels. Both the apartment and the hotel room had flat screen TVs. The location is hard to beat -- we were able to take the train from the airport and walk to the hotel with all of our bags quite easily. Once checked in, we found we were in an ideal location to get wherever we needed to go. I would happily recommend the Ascot Apartments or Ascot Hotel if street noise (with windows open) were not so problematic. If you are not a light sleeper or can request a room/apartment not on the street, this is a great place to stay!

  • Liked — location, room size, excellent staff, great breakfast!
  • Disliked — street noise with windows open for comfort - if get an inside room or are a heavy sleeper, I can highly recommend!
