“Old and worn out hotel in a good location”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

One of the few good things of this hotel is the location. They also have free WiFi, which worked pretty well. The furniture in the rooms however is old, the bathroom very simple and not 100 % clean. Elevators also looked pretty old. Breakfast is OK. Some plates and some knives and forks were dirty.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights, we thought the hotel is of a very high standard for a 3* the location is very central near Tivoli Gardens and the central station and basically everywhere else and is on the same road as all the other main hotels so why would you pay more? The lobby is large bright and comfortable and there is fresh coffee and tea available at all times, the breakfast is amazing, there are all sorts of pastries, types of bread, good selection of cereals & delicious yoghurt aswell as boiled and scrambled eggs, meatballs and hams, tomatoes etc all you would expect from a continental breakfast and more! Also some items were varied in breakfast from one day to the next which was nice. There is a computer in the lobby with free internet and very friendly and helpful reception staff, the rooms are basic but clean and no frills, we were very impressed and felt very much at home there.
I just wanted to thank all the staff and we hope to return to Copenhagen one day it was a wonderful and very relaxing holiday, luckily we were on the 5th floor and the room (520) was quiet but as most people use bycyles to get around anyway, there never seemed to be much traffic noise. All in all very good value for money and a very pleasant hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room to avoid traffic noise.

We paid £80 a night for a good sized twin room which is cheap for this city. I think we were lucky to get a suite with 2 rooms, although one room was a sofa bed. It's obvious that no money has been spent on this hotel for 10-15 years, and it is badly in need of renovation. However, it's still a hotel and it does the job of accommodating people fairly well. It is not half as bad as some of the reviews on here would have you believe. I suspect it's more likely to offend our US cousins than us Europeans who are perhaps used to slightly more basic facilities. Staff were freindly and helpful. Breakfast was nice but used a bizarre ticketing system. The one major negative is that the bathrooms do smell fousty on times due to there being an open drain in the room. The location is great for Tivoli and Radhusplasen.

Good service at the reception is about the only good thing in this hotel.
Bathrooms need renovation badly, the smell of mold and mildew is overwhelming.
There is a lot of traffic noise through the windows.
The food is about average at the restaurant and at breakfast, but the staff is hopelessly incompetent.

The Richmond Hotel has plenty of potential which is sadly not being met at the moment. I stayed over five nights either side of a short trip to Sweden The staff, particularly at reception, are efficient and friendly and keen to help and were happy to look after my suitcase until I returned. The location is very good within a few minutes walk of the central railway station (with connections to the airport), Tivoli Gardens and City Hall. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. The price of the Richmond was very competitive for Copenhagen. It offers a good buffet breakfast with cereal, fruit, hot food etc. Sadly these good points are offset by a hotel that is badly in need of renovation and redecoration. The rooms are tired with worn out fixtures and fittings and a dated look. Only the TV's were new. They have no air conditioning so you have to have a window open if you want a cool room on a hot day, but the road outside the hotel is bust with traffic all the time so if you are a light sleeper you are likely to be disturbed for most of the night. The bathrooms in particular were disappointing. They are little bigger than a shower cubicle with a toilet and sink in them, in a wet room style. They are badly ventilated so the ceilings and shower curtains are prone to damp, and once you have showered the floor is constantly wet. There is no where but a small shelf to put anything. The hotel has no real amenities like a bar or restaurant so there is little to do outside the rooms. If you are looking for somewhere to use as a base to explore the city and just want somewhere to sleep and wash this hotel is fine. But it is not a place to spend time and I would not look to stay at the Richmond if I returned to Copenhagen.

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a good experience. The staff was helpful with making recommendations. The location was close to the Latin quarter and Tivoli park and also had a convenient grocery store nearby. The breakfast was great with lots of delicious food - though get there early as the fresh fruit runs outs! The hotel is older, but our room was well maintained. We stayed 3 to room and we were confortable with the space. The cleaning staff had forgotten to provide us with the enough towels on more than one occassion, but the issue was quickly rectified. For a 3 star the hotel wasn't cheap, but Copenhagen is an expensive city!

Excellent location, nice hotel, great breakfast hotel. Only complaint was the week we were there was hot and there is no air conditioning. The room we had had a balcony that was common to the whole 3rd floor, so we could not leave our windows/doors open, which made the room pretty hot.
