I was hoping for better but this hotel just didn't quite deliver given the 4 star rating here. We stayed here 2 nights. Tried to check in early after an overnight flight from NYC, but no rooms were available. They have a self-serve luggage storage area in the basement that is supposedly monitored by camera and requires the staff to buzz open the door once you are down there. The staff were really nice and pleasant. They even gave us a free glass a wine in the lounge/bar/library one evening - even if the wine wasn't good, it was still appreciated. The location is terrific - just a 10 min walk at most from central station and walkable to most of the city attractions. On to the bad - we got a top floor room on HC Anderson Blvd. Being from NYC, this wasn't an issue for us. Typical european size room, so no surprise there (we managed with 2 suitcases and 2 backpacks) - but it was a bit outdated and worn as other reviewers are now mentioning. It was clean enough, but not super clean - some mold and rust in the bathroom. No A/C in the room, which seems typical in the Scandinavian countries. The windows provided enough air to keep the room comfortable when we were there, but if it were any warmer I could see that being a problem. They do offer a fan you can use in the room. The room key is rather large and they offer to hold the key for you while you're out and about. Seemed like a great idea until we witnessed what appeared to be a random person walk into the hotel lobby and ask for a key to a room. The first room number this person gave didn't exist but scored on the 2nd chance. Who knows, maybe he really did forget the room number he was staying in, but the receptionist didn't validate this individual at all and just handed over the room key. We decided to hang on to the key from that point on.

Overall, its an average hotel at best for the standard room. We didn't see the upgraded deluxe room, so can't compare, but standard it certainly was. Can't comment on any of the food offerings as we didn't eat there - too many other great options to try in the city. Probably would look to find something else the next time I'm in Copenhagen.

Room Tip: Keep your room key when leaving the hotel

I had read the reviews on this hotel and asked first thing for a quiet room. They gave us a room on the top floor (5th floor) on the "side street". But now, after having visited Copenhagen, I don't think there is such a thing as a quiet room in the Inner City District. First of all, air-conditioning is not necessary in Denmark most of the year. When you need to cool off, you open the window. There were heavy-duty concerts on the next block 2 of the 3 nights we stayed there. Hotel Alexandra is obviously aware of the noise issue and had 2 pairs of ear plugs in the bedside table. We took our Ambien and slept fine. Really!

I admire the Green Key status of this hotel. They give a 100 kroner coupon (for LeLe's Vietnamese restaurant on the 1st floor) if you choose not to have your room cleaned. You had to let them know by 9 am. The food was excellent and as a vegetarian, I had a great meal. The 100 kroners covered the cost for one of us to eat free for lunch or dinner. But in order to take advantage of this benefit, you had to stay more than one night.

This hotel is easy walking to the tourist sights of the Botanical Gardens, King's Palace, the longest pedestrian street in Europe with loads of shopping, several museums and a variety of excellent and reasonable restaurants. Be sure to go to a bakery and have a real "Danish" pastry. OMG!! The cinnamon rolls are out of this world. Also, the Central Train Station is only a couple of blocks away.

Great location (near to train station and shopping/prom street Stroget), clean bathroom, good service, bike rental just across the street (hotel also has bikes for rental, but had only one free at the moment).

I would give it 2 1/2 stars at the most - the hotel needs a major overhaul - furniture was worn and the premises looked a bit beaten up. There was construction going on right below my room and the noise started at 6.30 am. I closed the window and tried to set the air condition and noted a note that because of environmental reasons the airconditioners were removed in the hotel - well that was that. Either sleep with the noise from the street and construction or bear the trapped heat during a humid summer night.
I must say that the Vietnamese restaurant located at the hotel was super good. Freshly prepared foods and a sparkling clean place. The breakfast was basic, but good.

I'm very sorry to read you had a bad experience with us. I do not know which room you stayed in but I can inform you all our rooms are officially awarded with 3 stars. I do not understand that you experienced our Danish furniture design from 40 to 60´s as worn and beaten up.

We are fully aware that there is a problem with the ongoing road work. For your info the works will end mid September.

Thank you for taking the time to review us, Jeppe Mühlhausen, General Manager

The Hotel is well located on H C Andersen Blvd very near the railway station, the Tivoli Gardens and the town hall. That and all the amazing Danish design on display are the best thing about it. The room we were given was clean but small and stuffy. Difficult for a couple with two suitcases. Breakfast was in the Vietnamese restaurant that is part of the hotel and was quite OK. We ate there one night as well and the food was good. The staff were very helpful but there weren't enough of them - you usually had to wait at the front desk for any request. Having said all that, I would stay there again just for its location.

Room Tip: It might be better to pay the extra for a bigger room.

A great location. Rooms are interesting with Danish designed retro furniture. You need to pay for the better rooms if you really want to enjoy the design element. It is noisy outside but our room had double glazing so was fine. Breakfast is ok: fresh but not a huge amount of choice. We found the staff friendly. I'd certainly stay here again.

This is an average hotel with comfortable rooms and so so breakfast, but with a wonderful location. We stayed here a week ago and even thought the staff was helpful but not necessarily nice, I would stay here again only because is walking distance to everywhere I wanted to see in Copenhagen. If you need to leave your window open, it might be noisy at night.
