One of the best meals we had in Denmark. The three course meal cost less than most of the other meals we had and was far more interesting. There were small surprises in between each course so it was more like a 6 course meal. Everthing was super fresh and the staff carefully described the ingredients of each course.

A dinner at Höst is in many ways an expanding of consciousness.
You get introduced to new ways of mixing flavors and food.
We ordered a 3 course menu, which turned out to be a 5 course menu.
All dishes were inspirational and added positive to our views of new nordic food. It was excellent!

This upscale eatery with minimalistic decor is not just good to look at, the food tastes amazing and the staff are seriously knowledgable. As a reviewer before me has correctly pointed out, there are some bonuses offered when you opt for their 3 course meal. And they are all delightful. The last who waited on us individually described how the dishes were cooked and what to expect. She patiently answered all our queries. This is New Nordic cuisine made approachable. Their is the obvious use of dramatics (as prevalent in most New Nordic cuisine restaurants) like foams and gels and birch leaf smoke, but what must be mentioned is that the stress on taste is very high. This place is a sure winner. Also, when the lady saw me take notes about the food, she graciously presented me a self explanatory menu to take home. That was really sweet.

We were only in Copenhagen for a week and when we tried to book this three of the four nights we could eat out were full. So having squeezed in on a Wednesday night it was no surprise that we were seated in the downstairs part of the restaurant. Whilst still pleasant, its not a patch on the bright and airy upstairs. So, top tip... book early and ask for a seat upstairs!
We were a family of four with our two children aged 11 and 13. As far as we could see they were the only children in the place. We parents chose the set three course menu for 295Kr and the children just had a main course. Just before the first course we were presented with a small appetiser (for four which was a nice touch), the highlight of which was the smoked new potatoes with a crabmeat stuffing! The starter was a queen scallop dish with an eclectic accompaniment of mushrooms, plums, wild garlic, herbs and a mussel jus. It worked for me, but my wife wasn't so keen. In between this and the main course was some wonderful home made bread and butter. Very moist, warm and left you wanting more. Main course was a roast pork neck with an assortment of beetroot (chunks, strips and sauce). The meat was succulent, packed full of flavour and well complemented by the beetroot. Before dessert was another chef's dish. This time a fruit mousse around a liquorice flavoured caramel. Truly divine. Again, a nice touch that the kitchen 'made a mistake' and sent out four of these as the children were not having dessert. Lastly the dessert was chamomile ice cream with two typed of meringue, honeycomb and something pear flavoured. Not my cup of tea, but I can see how it would appeal to some.
Wine here is a bit on the pricey side - but then that seems to be typical of Copenhagen - but there was a good choice - but we stuck to the bottom end of the list with a Sogno Bianco for 25Kr. Water is charged extra, and it just keeps coming! So don't arrive thirsty!
All in all a very enjoyable experience for all of us. Great food, reasonable price, great surroundings and very attentive and friendly staff. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Do not be fooled to think you 'only' get 3 courses when you spend 'An evening at Höst'. The amouse bouches, the waiting course, the small extra dessert in addition to the normal menu will leave you extremely full, but above all, you will be blown away by simple but clever taste combinations. Utterly satisfying!! 575 DKR for three (six) courses including (4 glasses of) wine. Be sure to book your table in advance.
