“Cabinn is ok, cheap & clean, but not spacious”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2009

Along with all the other reviews on here, I agree the rooms are tiny, but they are cheaper than a lot of other hotels in the expensive city of Copenhagen. If you can upgrade from a standard room then that is a good option to at least get 2 side by side single beds.

The bathrooms are tiny, but clean, as are the rooms. One thing that you have to do every couple of days if they change your sheets and towels is to make your own bed again, housekeeping just puts a clean sheet and blanket on the bed. The free wifi works really well, and if you want a reasonable breakfast the cold buffet each day is not bad.

Its only a short walk to Tivoli, the main train station, and the main city square. The location is excellent, mainly very quiet streets around the hotel. There is a great Thai restaurant behind the back of the railway station, and I would recommend www.RizRaz.dk restaurant as well (Kompagnistræde 20 - along the street from Oscars Bar at the south end of Main Square).

We stayed in the Cabinn City hotel in June during the heat wave. The window opens side ways so the air did not blow into the room. It was really warm. The rooms are tiny but clean. Three of us stayed in a room with two bunk beds and a pull out trundle. It made getting up at night challenging. It helps that there is a restroom in the lounge downstairs when there are three of you sharing a room. The location was great. There is noise from Tivoli but we had ear plugs. Walking with your luggage from the train station is easy. The staff were wonderful but interestingly none were Danish. It costs 100 DKK to rent a hair dryer but they give you your money back when you return the hair dryer. The cost is reasonable, accomodations clean, smoke free, centrally located, and internet in the lobby. A good value if you are not claustrophobic.

Not a good hotel. I was attending a large conference. My original hotel was double booked and I was forced into this hotel by the event planners.

I was informed by some locals that the hotel is in a seedy part of town. I personally did not see it. The rooms are very small. I believe they are actually cabins that would be found in a cruise ship. In some ways interesting, but overall not. I arrived to the room and the first room did not have a door that would shut due to damage. I complained to the front desk and they did give me a different room, but reluctantly. What I arrived at the second room, everything looked in order, but not..."crisp" for lack of a better term. The bed and towels looked off. Upon closer inspection of the bed, the sheets were "soiled" by the previous occupant...nasty! The towels were damp from use. I once again complained to the front desk. They said they would change the linens, but never did. I ended up sleeping on top of the bed and took showers at a collegues hotel on the other side of the city.

It seems that the large majority of the comments on here are from ppl who stayed in the standard room with the awful bunk bed. There are however two other styles of rooms: Commodore & Captain. I stayed at Cabinn for 3 nights: 1 in standard room, 2 in Commodore, so I will comment on both.

The things that many ppl have commented about and I agree with are Cabinn's convenient location, cleanliness and good free Internet. It's only a 5min walk to Central station & Tivoli, 10mins to Rådhuspladsen (main town square), and the rooms and common areas are spotlessly clean. It's also cheap and they have specified set room rates year round, so they don't rip you off or inflate the prices on weekends & public holidays like every other hotel does. It seemed the only thing letting this hotel down was the room size, which is why I opted for an upgrade (at only AU$20 extra, why not??).

The standard room is very small, the size of a ship cabin (hence the hotel name - nice play on words there). It's ok for a single traveler I guess. The top bunk bed is very concerning because it's VERY high. It's so close to the roof that you can't sit up on the bed & there's no railing!

Upgrading to the Commodore room was a AU$20 well spent. I enjoyed staying in this room. Even though it's not significantly larger and still quite small, it has a different layout so it fits two bed's side by side (much better for couples) & also the bathroom is a tad larger so the toilet doesn't get quite so wet from showering.

My only complaint would be that some rooms get quite a bit of noise from Tivoli Gardens when the windows are opened, you can hear ppl on the rides screaming etc! This noise however stops when Tivoli closes around 11pm/12am & the hotel and surrounding streets otherwise are quiet.

For value and convenience I'd recommend staying at Cabinn, but if you don't mind paying just that little bit extra, I suggest getting one of the (slightly) larger style rooms. Claustrophobic's should look elsewhere though.

CabInn is a gentle 5 minute walk from the main train station in Copenhagen. However, this hotel makes its name based on the layout of their rooms. The rooms a very small, and feature bunk beds instead of side-by-side beds. Also, the bathroom is very compact; the shower head is on the ceiling of the room, and you simply pull the shower curtain around you to protect the toilet and sink from getting wet.

This hotel is not meant to be roomy. However, the staff were very kind (except at one point we encountered someone who was brisk with us, but everyone else was great), and the hotel itself is very clean.

Cabinn City was clean and located in great position for sight seeing, but from talking to friends who stayed in the city, better deals are to be had in Copenhagen. You would be better off either staying in a hostel, or paying slightly more for a regular room. I have stayed in private hostel rooms larger and cheaper than Cabinn. The basic rooms with twin beds and ensuite are so tiny I am baffled at how they got planning permission for them, especially when offering triple share. The beds were extremely narrow, and the top bunks had no proper railing. I stayed here as part of a tour and most people in the group were too worried about falling off the top bunk in the middle of the night so ended up using the third mattress they store under the lower bunk bed for triple share. God knows how they could offer triple share in these rooms. The only way we had the space for the floor mattress was by stacking the two desk chairs in front of the door and sliding the end of the mattress under the wall desk. The ladder for the bunk beds is stored on the opposite wall, with no room to place it on the bunks if a third person is sleeping on a floor mattress - potentially annoying if the person on the top bunk needs to get down say in the middle of the night before the floor mattress is stored away. Also certain rooms got a lot of noise from Tivoli Gardens and pedestrians below - noise didn't die down in our room until past midnight. When we stayed the housekeeping were efficient, but annoying, knocking on our doors several times before 11am check out. So if you like a sleep the day of check out, another reason not to book here. Also watch out that the previous guest in your room hasn't left the water setting to the shower head rather than basin tap - you'll end up soaked if you try and wash your hands!
