It's rare that we travel without cross-referencing Trip Advisor, Zagat and Chowhound. Having just arrived in Copenhagen, we didn't know what to expect in terms of energy to dine on the first night.

With no background research, we wandered to the new harbor area - which is totally charming. There is a dizzying array of dining choices. We wandered the entire strip of places to try to discern where the locals were eating - we noticed more drinking than eating and ended up choosing NyhavnsKroen.

It was fortuitous. The area is a bit of a tourist trap and the restaurant delivered authentic and high quality Danish food. We would go back, but have little time to make another visit.

...I went to Denmark for a long weekend with a friend of mine. We passed this restaurant whilst on the hunt for lunch/Smørrebrød! The menu looked good so we gave it a try.

Our first impression wasn't very good. The waiter (male) approached us and didn't even bother with a greeting. He looked annoyed and stayed that way for the whole duration of our meal there. He asked if we had a reservation and when we said no, said there wasn't a table. We had to ask him how long. He said 15 minutes and walked away. We presumed he was off to get a book to take note but went to serve other people.

If it hadn't have been for the waitress we probably wouldn't have returned, but she was a complete contrast to him.

However we did return as a busy restaurant is always a good sign - especially when it is mainly locals in there.

In regards to the Smørrebrød - if you haven't got a big appetite then one will be enough for you. We both ordered two each and it was way too much. The food was good though and generous sizes. See pics!

We both enjoyed our meal - it is a shame about the 'welcome' we received though.

We ate there last week. The food was pretty grim ...in particular the dish described as Danish fish cakes were tasteless processed fish shaped lumps of something so pulverised they bore no resemblance to any identifiable food. it was served on a liquid mass of mashed potato and something else which was literally stomach churning (kr.170) The veggie burger was pretty unpalatable as well.....Avoid.

I am sorry for your really bad experience with our danish fishcakes and veggie burger. I know it wont help you but we are always well complimented for our food and I really hope you eased your mind on the evening itself so the waiters where able to ease your frustration. If not I would be happy to be able to invite you for a free main course for 2 if you should pass Nyhavn. I am pretty sure a different choice of food would have made you happier since our veggie burger usually is well liked and the fish cakes is a regular danish dish.

Went with a friend the other night for dinner before movie.
Friend is a lover of traditional Danish food. We picked 2 starters and 2 mains all excellent served, took our change of sauces with main course without complaints and a smile.
Food was 100 out of 100.
“Hakkebøf” made like grandma would make it and onions perfect in texture and taste.

Normally all restaurants in Nyhavn only has normal plan drafts of beers but Nyhavnskroen have several other choices in microbrewery beers and ciders.

Waiter was smiling, helpful and on her toes…

Would recommend this place to everyone and I am coming back.

Great location on Nyhavn where both the menu and the service were first class. We have eaten in many restaurants in the city and would put this one somewhere near the top of our choices. Not overly expensive. In fact really good value for money and will certainly eat there again on our next visit.
