Mixed feelings about this place:

On the Plus side: very nicely decorated boutique hotel, breakfast area is very pleasant with various balconies you can use as lounge and relax. Host was super friendly at checkout. Fairly quiet (our room was on one of the courtyards). Room had nice side, with a large desk and lots of storage space.

On the OK side: not sure what to say about the wifi. Worked for me, but my friend had to go to another local network.

On the Minus side: I think the word organic is used at this place more as a buzz word than to guarantee a level of compliance with whatever standard. Besides the organic towels and maybe the shampoo, I'm not sure what the deal is. You are supposed to feel you help the planet by not using air-conditioning (and you do), but "green" buildings don't have to be uncomfortable. Stay at a PassivHaus hotel for instance (there are plenty in Germany), and they'll have proper ventilation and you won't feel hot like at this place (we might have been here the worst week of summer, but...). My point is that this hotel is more about aesthetics than comfort. Some decisions make no sense: rugs in the corridor which are a pain with suitcases, stairs (if like me you like to use stairs) which are so steep no code official could agree to them and a door opening back at you making you fall off. And housekeeping is a little weak (spiderwebs). Bathroom also is at a standard which might have been acceptable back in the '80s (no place to put your stuff, cheap shower curtain etc.). And all that at Copenhagen prices...

Dear Mr. Luc V,

just felt that we had to respond, mainly due to your headline: "Organic, what´s behind the buzzword".

Actually, there´s a LOT behind the word in our case: we are the only hotel group in Denmark to have achieved the golden Ø-label for more than 90% organic food & drink - our actual percentage is 98,6. In Denmark, that´s not to be taken lightly: the Ø-label is governed by the Ministry of Agriculture, and they are extremely strict, having no financial interest in greenwashing. So it´s not only the towels, the toiletries, the cleaning products used by housekeeping, the pens/paper etc etc. It´s also all the food you eat and all the drinks you drink. It has taken us so much time and energy to achieve this level of organic, and do feel that we´re allowed to use the expression.

As for your comments about the building: obviously we don´t have airconditioning, that goes without saying - but for the rest: this is an old building! Still a beautiful and strong building, that we have renovated to some extent, but it´s not simple to install new ventilation systems and new staircases in old buildings, and not very sustainable either. Everything, cars/buildings/appliances etc., need to be used up before it makes sense to produce new ones, and the building at the Carlton Guldsmeden is in no way used up - it´s a lovely, comfortable place with soul and charm, and we love it :-).
Best from us all at the Carlton Guldsmeden!

I normally stay clear of boutique hotels pushing the organic barrow but Copenhagen is a very expensive city for hotels with little choice for a capital city so we booked 2 nights here. Rooms and corridors are very nice with old furniture and interesting artwork. We paid the extra and certainly got the largest room on our floor with comfortable enough 4 poster bed. Some of the other rooms looked very small. The bathrooms were quite large however the towels were horrible rough organic towels. The balcony was at the back so no road noise ( but little view) and nice until the hotel restaurant turned their fan, ugh cooking smells. No kettle in the room and they actually boasted about their cafe where you pay for a coffee. No air conditioning Really annoyed when they charged 2% extra for credit card payment without warning. Liked the are though with heaps of restaurants around and only 10 minute walk to train station

Room Tip: Be careful which room you chose, cheap could be just that. Front would be fine at weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed my 2 night stay. Single room was large and very comfortable. Shower products excellent. Staff very nice and welcoming- on my late arrival (10pm) they kindly fixed me some yummy bread, as the local restuarants were just closed. Their Norrebro beer is really nice. The room had wine but no tea/coffee facilty. Breakfast buffet was lovely, but at 145DKK/€20 is super expensive. For a budjet option, there is a coffeehouse a few doors down from hotel. Neighbour is quite and its about 15 mins walk to train-station.
ps. Local vietnamese noodlebar worth a visit.

Room Tip: rooms at back face into quieter residential area.

If you are in to organics then this is the place for you including towels that take the skin off your back they are so hard and thin! That said the rooms are nicely furnished and adequately sized. The location - Vesterbro - a former red light district is now one of the up and coming areas within easy reach of the City centre. Lots of good cafés and restaurants nearby.

We stayed here for 3 nights, which was the perfect amount of time to spend in Copenhagen. Location is good if you're wanting to be near to the bars and restaurants of the meatpacking district, and only a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre. We hired bikes from the hotel at 150-200kr which was definitely the right decision as it meant we could fully explore.

Room itself was perfectly comfortable, great bed. Only slight negative could be to invest in better curtains!

We stayed here for four nights; the room was small but clean; the hotel was quiet. The location is fine, about a 15 minute walk from the central station, in a diverse and interesting neighborhood to the west. Given how light it is both late and early in Copenhagen this time of year, I would have appreciated some room-darkening shades; on the other hand, in warm weather, the lack of any kind of ventilation would then have been a problem. Also, being an "organic" hotel is fine, but slightly softer towels are still allowed. We didn't try the breakfast, but it looked good.
