“Great breakfast! ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is very organic with clean rooms and a nice bar area. You can rent bikes but it is quite expensive. The breakfasts are very good. Lots of organic food and you can make your own tea. The bathrooms in the room contain free organic shampoo and the hotel has a shop where you can buy all their organic products. The rooms are well furnished but quite small this hotel is perfect for a short stay.

Nice rooms, but terrible noise. Our room was located directly next to the bar's smoking area... hearing middle aged drunken conversations all night was not what we hoped for.

Add to that a slamming main door audible to all rooms on the first floor, and you can expect a better night's sleep on the aeroplane home.

We live on a main road in central London, I'm used to noise, but the din from the front door and smoking area was just unbearable.

Wish we had gone for any of the (many) other options in the neighbourhood.

Room Tip: Don't allow them to put you on the first floor if you plan to sleep!

Dear BittK,

Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent stay here at the Carlton Guldsmeden Hotel. We fully understand that you were bothered by the noise, and would like to explain a little bit about what happened during your stay at the Hotel.

We had a very large group of guests from the creative and cultural "industry" staying with us during your stay. They decided to gather in our common area after their working hours ended – which unfortunately was past most people´s bedtime…

We were a bit unprepared for this improvised party, and we are very sorry that they have disturbed your sleep. We will of course inform future guests to be more considerate in their use of the balconies after midnight to ensure that our other guests can get a good nights´ sleep when staying with us.

Kind regards,
Carlton Guldsmeden

I stayed at Carlton Hotel Guldsmeden for 1 night only and I had a lovely stay! As pretty much everything in Copenhagen, the hotel was very stylish... just lovely! Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and heated bathroom floor!

The hotel is close to the train station and Tivoli park, which is a must see during Christmas time!
I had a great time in Copenhagen and would definitely stay in this hotel once again!

We loved everything about this place. First hotel we ever stayed in that made us feel like we really wanted to spend more time in the hotel than anywhere else. We didn't though, since it was our first visit to Copenhagen :)

The relaxing atmosphere, the lovely room, the great reception-area, the balconies to rest and enjoy something to drink or eat, the kind and helpful staff, all the small details you don't know you've missed in other hotels until you get to love them by visiting this hotel: like the look of room numbers on the walls, the materials used, the furniture, writing on the walls outside. Could go on forever - but will not. English is not my native language, so you better experience it yourself by staying at this hotel while in Copenhagen :)

"Its all in the details" really fits to describe this place!

Lovely breakfast, wonderful bed, great beer and god wine :)

A good walk from the centre of Copenhagen, but we didn't mind. As tourists, we really like to enjoy and get to know the places we visit by walking - so we knew the walking distances to "want-to-see" before we chose this hotel.

Love and recommend!

Jørn and Hilde

Room Tip: Loved our room, 4th, facing backyard with balcony.

What a find this was, especially after having stayed in one of the worst hotel rooms ever a few days before (the Absalon, just five minutes away) . A genuine boutique / bespoke hotel just ten minutes' walk from central station and all for a very reasonable price (especially for Copenhagen). The staff were extremely helpful, especially the woman who checked us in when we arrived who could not have been more helpful and friendly. The rooms are beautifully decorated: a refreshing change from bland chains or the formulaic minimalist modern variety (complete with Ikea furniture) which you often get in Scandinavia. Our room had a distinctively African/colonial feel with its animal furs, four-poster bed and antique chest of drawers and bedside lockers. Yet, the room was also perfectly modern (complete with iTV, if that's what it's called) and a gorgeous bathroom with one of the most unusual sinks I've ever seen (it looked like it had been shaped from tree bark). The hotel's own-brand toiletries are beautiful; however, a word of caution: guests are only allowed use them but not take away any remains after! If you do so, you will be charged for them (and they are prohibitively expensive!). Breakfast, too, is very dear, so we skipped this option. Overall, though, I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have better views but there is some street noise (not so bad though thanks to the...

Stayed here for a long weekend in September. The staff was warm, inviting and knowledgeable about the area. We had a superior double room and it came with a balcony that was a definite hangout while we were there. The room was comfortable with plenty of storage for two girls. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The concept of the hotel was carried out perfectly. The common area was beautiful and fit perfectly with the theme of the hotel. Warm, homey and definitely an easy space to hang out in, including the balconies with self serve heaters. Great local knowledge helped us find a great wine bar and numerous restaurants. Easy access to transportation to take you anywhere but also easy access to walk around. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Copenhagen and plan to visit another of their properties. Clean, inviting, spacious, comfortable and the staff is wonderful.

Room Tip: splurge for the superior double with balcony. Embrace this is green hotel. And, don't shy away f...

There are many features I can recommend with respect to the Carlton Hotel Guldsmeden, but there are also some aspects travelers should be aware of. First, for Copenhagen, the price is quite good. The hotel is certainly clean, the rooms good-sized compared to what I have read about Copenhagen, though the bathrooms are small, the bed was very comfortable, and we had a small refrigerator. While we were told it was a 10 minute walk from Central Station, this is not the case if someone is dragging luggage. The trek with luggage was more like at least 20 minutes. When we left the city, we took a bus to the station and, while it was still a little walk to the bus stop, it was a better way to get the luggage around. If you are careful using the Copenhagen pass (24 hour segments), you can use the bus as well as travel to the airport without additional charge before it runs out, as long as you are within the 24 hour window on your last day. Also, check before you arrive about use of elevators since you can’t easily get to the reception floor using the front elevator. There seemed to be another elevator off an entrance in the back that did go to all floors and would make it a lot easier to get the bags to reception. The hotel breakfast is huge, but also expensive, almost $50 for two and there is no coffee maker in the room. There are bakeries in the neighborhood that are very affordable. The staff was professional and addressed questions promptly. The location is not right near major sites, but is a 20 minute walk to reach the beginning of the Stroget, and fifteen minute walk from Tivoli.
