“Rough Around the Edges”
Reviewed August 17, 2010

This hotel is widely used by many tour groups, etc. The hotel itself, which at one time has been a very nice boutique-type hotel is "well worn" and as a result is looking a little rough around the edges. The rooms for two travellers in a twin is about the size of closet so it is better to upgrade to the "suite", although in comparison to other hotels it is still on the small side. Although the hotel is convenient due to location, I would pick another hotel that didn't look so dingy. Rating it at 3 stars is generous but the staff were very professional and helpful.

Dear KatAlyea

Thank you for your review. We are always happy to get feedback positiv as well as negativ. Regarding the room size, I general Copenhagen hotel are not known to have the biggest size of rooms. At The Square we operates with 4 different room sizes. Standard, superior, executive and Junior Suites from a double standard room of 18 m2 to 40 m2. Regarding the standard we are highly aware of the importence of maintanance. If you have any specific point I would love to hear about them as we are planing the budget for 2011.

Regarding the staff I am glad they acted in a professional way. I hope I can assist you in the future if you return to Copenhagen.

Best regards
Jens WIttendorff, GM

We enjoyed our 3-night stay (Wednesday to Saturday) at this well located hotel which has a friendly staff and is on the Town Hall Square and is close to "Strøget", the Tivoli Garden and the Central Station.
The room, which has Danish modern decor, was comfortable, though on the small side. The bathroom was modern and well appointed. Though several other reviews mentioned noise problems, we did NOT experience any undue noise during our stay. Our room overlooked the side street (Jernbanegade), but was only one room from the Town Hall Square (Radhuspladsen). We would definitely stay here again.
Our rate did not include breakfast, which could have been added for 110 DKK per person per day (about 20 USD pp). We felt this was a bit pricey, and there were several less expensive options nearby (though not with the view from The Square's 6th floor breakfast restaurant.

Stayed for one night. Great location, average rooms and appalling customer service. Had forgotten my toothbrush/toothpaste and hotel wanted to charge me $6 to give me one. Asked for recommendation for dinner and all they could point to was McDonald's and the restaurant next door. All of this in a semi- to no-friendly way. Will never go back and cannot recommend to anyone

A lobby with stacks of suitcases was the first thing that met us as the storage room was full. Booked a Junior Suite de luxe, turned out to be a large double room with a sofa and worn interior, nice bathroom. Very noisy at night due to traffic, bring your ear plugs! Service below average, find another hotel.

I have just spent 4 nights at this modern hotel in the heart of Copenhagen. The rooms are small, but well appointed, apart from very soft beds. Not soft from wear, but maybe that's what the Danes like. More a trampoline than a mattress. Our aircon did not seem to be working. A request for attention was dealt with very promptly but not successfully. The atmosphere in the lobby is modern/trendy. Breakfast was perfectly reasonable and popular. Busy at peak times. We were badly disturbed one night by scaffolding being moved at 3am right outside our window. Our complaints went unheeded

We were very pleased with our stay at The Square. Several other reviewers have commented on the beds - while we requested a queen we got two singles, but they were comfortable. The bathroom was very modern and nice. A/C worked well, as did free Internet (and they provided a cable for wired - wireless in the lobby only). Staff was very friendly and helpful - making recommendations, calling cabs, etc. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was very good - large selection of cold food (breads, meats/cheeses, cereal, fruits, yogurt, plus coffee/tea/juice).

Location is superb - just a couple blocks from the train station, one block from Tivoli and the Stroget shopping district, etc.

The only complaint is that the main doors to the hotel are balky when you're dealing with suitcases.

To say the location was perfect is an understatement. Literally on the big square and 1.5 blocks from the train station and next door to Tivoli. I like the mod style of the hotel plus I was able to find a good rate on the room so I felt like I got a deal for the price that things cost in Copenhagen. The amenities were fine and was great for this solo traveler who likes a nice room internet and good locations for my traveling.
