“Mad max post apocalyptic feel to the place!”

Fee: No
Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

Yes worth a visit . The other reviews describe it well. Worth seeing because its different but a depressed air to the place. Don't expect too much but it is so close to metro and boat and 2a bus route makes visiting easy.

We went to Christiania this evening and what a seedy place it is! I have never seen big bags of marijuana before or large slabs of resin type stuff except on the television. It was an experience I suppose. It was easy to find as you just followed everyone else when you got off the metro. It was obvious that the rest of Copenhagen went there to get their supplies! There were some stalls selling marijuana. They even sold ready rolled. They seemed quite expensive but then what do I know.

There were big bonfires in old oil drums and lots of men who looked stoned standing around smoking. There are very few lights so it was a bit spooky but it was interesting I suppose. Some other stalls sold all the usual paraphernalia that they sell in Amsterdam.

It's so easy to get around the city so why not pop over for a visit.

Christiania is a most interesting area comprised of artists and free spirits. It is much like taking a trip back to the 60's.

On day this colourful place might have changed so much that you will come to regret that you did`t see it earlier.
Do not hesitate, go visit at first chance.

Freetown christiania is close to the christiansvahn metro station and the church of our saviour!
It really is a totally different world from the rest of Copenhagen. If you have been to amsterdam and you like the "coffee shop experience" then you may want to visit Christiania's green light district which is quite similar but smaller. Enough said!!
Also, taking pictures is not allowed within the green light district!
