I think this is one of the most beautiful areas in Copenhagen. Right next to the citadel and the Anglican church. The fountain itself hold a history from the Danish mythology and you can continue your walk to the Little Mermaid.

This beautiful fountain is just over 100 years old.
It features the goddess Gefion with her 4 oxen.
Some folk legend connects this scene to the mythical creation of Denmark.
Either way, it's a lovely fountain by the waterfront and Kastellet.

The Gefion Fountain :s a large fountain on the harbour front in Copenhagen. It was designed by Danish artist Anders Bundgaard, who sculpted the naturalistic figures 1897-99. The basins and decorations were completed in 1908. The fountain was first activated on July 14, 1908.

The fountain underwent extensive renovations starting in 1999. The fountain was out of commission for many years, and was re-inaugurated in September 2004.

If you head up to the Little Mermaid you can include this on the walk.

The Gefion fountain is located near the Little Mermaid and the Kastellet. It pays tribute to a goddess or heroine, to whom the King of Sweden promised as much land as she could plow in a single day. The turned her four sons (despite being a virgin!) into bulls, and did it. Denmark enter the story because the dirt they pulled out became the island of Zealand, where Copenhagen is. Anyway, it is a beautiful fountain, worth a visit for those who go see the Mermaid.
