“I am not impressed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2014

The fountain is huge and there lies a cool story behind what it symbolises, but... that is it. For the adventure-seekers might be quite interesting to try to get on one of the bulls :):):)

“Part of the Norse soul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2014

A powerful sculpture from mythology rises atop a mound near the North Toolbooth, not far from the Kastellet. The dynamic and fluid figures show what lengths a Danish goddess will go to (she turned her sons into the bulls to pull her plow!) to create the main island of Denmark. Anders Bundgaard created the fountain over a hundred years ago, in a naturalistic style reminiscent of Egyptian Apis bulls on steroids. Magnificent!

“Magnificent Fountain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

This is quite a grand fountain, topped by a female charioteer (Gefion, the Norse goddess), pulled by 4 bulls plowing the earth. Raw energy exudes from the bulls. This is the largest fountain in Copenhagen and depicts the creation of Zealand. Although the water had been drained when we visited due to winter, the sculpted figures retained their vitality. With the water flowing, I can well imagine the overall effect of the site to be even more impressive.
The fountain is next to the only Anglican Church in Denmark, the Resistance Musuem and Churchill Park. It is a short walk along the canal to the Litlle Mermaid.
This is definitely a very nice stop to see some important sites in Copenhagen.

This fountain is beautiful and you can see it in your way to the little mermaid or while walking to the kastellet and the park.

“Great fountain!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2013

Although we were not looking for the Gefion Fountain (Gefiovsprngvandet) we stopped for pictures on our way from the Little Mermaid working our way back to Central. I did look up the fountain when we got back to the hotel late in the day and found the story interesting. It is adjacent to the Castle Church (Kastelskirken). We may not have gone looking for this fountain, but it was great having found it during our walk.
