Owner description: The Royal Danish Arsenal Museum houses permanent exhibitions about war, defence and weapon technology, and presents Danish military history from the 1500s until today. Experience the exhibition "Denmark's Wars" in the museum's large Rustkammersal and "A Distant War - a Danish Soldier in Afghanistan", an exhibition in which you can feel the atmosphere of a Danish combat group in Afghanistan.

Best deal is free Wednesdays. Downstairs is mainly filled with ancient cannons and weaponry. Amazing display but could use better lighting as some areas it was hard to see. Also, written information for this display is only in Danish. Still worth seeing as you can figure out when/where the weapons were used.
Also, downstairs is an incredible display showing what it is like in Afghanistan for the soldiers and locals. This information is in Danish and English.
Upstairs is a combination of weapons and chronological information on wars/warfare from ancient times through present. This information is in Danish and English.
This museum was much more than we anticipated it to be and would highly recommend it to foreign visitors.

Arsenal Museum
This is far more than a military museum. The Royal Danish Arsenal Museum records over five centuries of Danish military history in a way that may others could emulate. The museum has a ground floor displaying an astonishing range of cannon, from some of the earliest examples through to WWII. The condition of many of the old pieces is amazing. It is the renovated second floor that really takes your time. The stark refurbishing style really suits the displays while giving a sense of space and timeless. To say it is just a collection of uniforms, weapons, medals, and support material through the ages does not do it justice. The layout of the displays and the progress through Denmark's long military history is superb. The commentary on conflicts where Denmark was unsuccessful were presented in a matter-of-fact manner and where there were less than glorious outcomes they are reported as such. This is a great credit to the general exhibition's organisers. There are a number of donated exhibits from Danish citizens and the one of early Japanese Samurai uniforms and weapons was amazing. While seeming out of place at first, the fact that it is a donation of such value is impressive. The interactive display of Denmark's role in Afghanistan is a poignant reminder of modern conflicts. The museum is next to the magnificent Fredericksborg Palace and is only open in the afternoon. We are so glad we planned our day to include the visit.

If you are interested in military history, or weapons this should be on your list of places to see. The museum is located beside Christianborg palace in the historic Royal arsenal building. The museum has a lot of things to see. There is a exhibit dedicated to the war Afghanistan that is really well done. The second floor contains some fantastic exhibits on uniforms, weapons, medals and more.

Went here and just saw the first floor, which is basically old cannons and some artillery and an exhibit about Denmark's involvement in Afghanistan. Didn't realize they had a 2nd floor until later. The 2nd floor is very good, lots of history about Denmark's experience with war through the years. Well done exhibits with videos. If you are into history and military history this is a must see.

This often-overlooked museum has had a major renovation on its second floor covering five centuries of Danish wars. Of greater interest is a brand-new exhibit on the Danish experience in Afghanistan, which virtually puts the museum-goer into the every-day soldier's experience. Danish veterans of Afghanistan have collaborated with the museum to recreate a forward operating post which the visitor walks through, including sleeping and eating quarters, the observation tower, map and sit-rep room, with real kit and accessories brought back from Afghanistan and used in the exhibit. It is really like virtual-reality- quite unique and well worth the visit. Check the opening hours - it is only open four hours a day and not everyday.
