Free and an excellent collect. I'm a fan of Caspar David Friedrich's work and 19th century romantic landscape art in general. It's well worth a visit.

Absolutely incredible art and for free too!! Only saw the Danish art and wished that I had more time to see the rest of the museum! Art was very well-presented, and there were brochures outside each area with recommended paths through the rooms. Lockers downstairs with tokens in case you don't have spare change. It was a little chilly in the museum though, so you may want to wear your sweater or coat. DO NOT MISS!!!!!

I loved visiting the National Gallery. It has a very expansive collection of Danish art, as well as a wonderful French (and other) collection(s). Plan to spend 2-4 hours. It is free entrance, though there is a fee to see special exhibitions, and free lockers/coat room. It is very clean. I would go any day of the week, but I happened to go on a rainy day and felt it was a great way to spend a few drizzly hours. Near the botanical gardens if you are in that neighborhood. I would recommend any visitor to check out the National Gallery.

The National Gallery is a grand building with a sympathetic modern extension, set in parkland near the botanic gardens - it is worth taking a stroll through the botanic gardens on the way if the weather is good.

The majority of the collection is Danish and Nordic art which was interesting as we don't get to see much in UK. There is much to see and you could spend a whole afternoon wandering around. We spent 2 hours and only managed to see about half of the rooms (sadly didn't have time for the French impressionist works). An added bonus was the nice cafe in the extension where we enjoyed cake and hot drinks looking out of the glass wall to the parkland behind.
