Owner description: Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the Little Mermaid has watched over Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. In 2010, Den Lille Havfrue, as she is known in Danish, left her post to represent Denmark at the World's Fair in Shanghai.

The highlight of my visit to the Little Mermaid was actually the Gefion fountain at the entrance of the Churchill park. I spend much more time as was actually impress by this fountain than with the Little mermaid. It is nice to have picture of the Little Mermaid but as it is very popular you will have to wait 15-20 minutes to have a decent shot because everyone is taking picture with a love one closed to it.

As The Little Mermaid is a symbol of Copenhagen you should see this statue. But do not expect something special - it is just a statue of a Mermaid sitting on the rock. It is nice and you do not have to pay to see it just do not expect too much.

The statue of The Little Mermaid is made to represent a character of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. She has watched over the Copenhagen Harbor since 1913. I would suggest you get here early for an unobstructed view. We visited first thing in the morning and it was just us BUT later when we took the canal ride; the statue was swarming with tourists. Walking along the harbor in this area is very pleasant. Otherwise this is just a sweet little statue.

How can you go to Copenhagen and not visit and photograph The Little Mermaid? Of course, you can't, so we did. We strolled along the Langelinie promenade and waited while a small crowd of tourists removed themselves from the rocks onto which I climbed down to get photograph of her. Something we both had wanted to see for many a year. And there she was and we were not disappointed.

In order to photograph The Little Mermaid, you must have either a zoom lens or scramble down a few large smooth boulders to get close enough. Unless you are surefooted, do not try it, but this active 80-year old did it fairly easily. So you be the judge of surefootedness!

We really enjoyed visiting the Little Mermaid. Yes, it's a long walk from the centre, but if you combine it with the Amalie Garden, the Kastellet, and just exploring the harbour area it's a great way to spend a few hours. We did this on our first night in Copenhagen and it was great to see the whole waterfront area. It would be a shame to visit Copenhagen and only see the centre - the statute is beautiful, and the area she occupies is lovely.
