Owner description: Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the Little Mermaid has watched over Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. In 2010, Den Lille Havfrue, as she is known in Danish, left her post to represent Denmark at the World's Fair in Shanghai.

The Little Mermaid is clearly a very popular tourist attraction if judged by the hordes of tourists and the canal ride boats which stop by. Everyone takes some pictures of it and the most difficult problem is to get a clean shot which does not include the tourists who constantly approach the statue. A must see because of what it means and what it evokes, but not because of what it is, a small statue on a rock.

This is an important site in Copenhagen, and while I wouldn't call it anything spectacular, it is well worth a visit. It is close to the Citadel and Gefion Fountain, so a walk through that entire area is well worth your time and really a must-do. You also see this statue from the Canal Tours, but only the back of the statue. I would definitely take a few minutes to walk by the front of it, see the statue, and take some pictures from the front. The canal tours also give some really fun history behind the statue which was quite entertaining!
